Also known as the Aurora Borealis, this solar phenomenon brings magical sights to the Anchorage bowl quite frequently during the winter months. To be able to watch these cosmic lights dance, two conditions must align for the reds, blues, magentas, and greens to be visible: it must be sufficiently dark enough, and the skies must be clear. Also, as a little insider local tip, check the aurora borealis forecast that's hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks! They update the projected solar activity needed in order to for the aurora to be visible, so you can plan your borealis-hunting accordingly!
