It has been a dream of mine to be in sporting good stores all across North America for the last decade.
I fantasized about seeing our products hanging on their pegs, or better yet, being loaded into someone’s basket as they head out on their next backcountry trip.
This spring, we’re well on our way to being in a store near you!
Next month, we’re shipping our largest retail orders to date, and I couldn’t be more excited!
Soon, Heather’s Choice meals will be available in 77 stores across the US, with Packaroons available in 132. That is WILD!
Not to mention, we also have an incredible group of 148 independent retail stores from Washington to New York. Need a Packaroon or a Heather’s Choice meal? There’s likely a retailer near you!

It’s African Peanut Stew Week here at the production facility 🥜
Well, we aren’t really calling it that, but we did making THOUSANDS of our beloved vegan and vegetarian friendly sweet potato curry in the past few days 🤪
This meal is a real show stopper with an unspeakable amount of peanut butter, freshly chopped Swiss chard, ginger and turmeric. It’s a hearty stew that your bound to fall in love with 💕

This morning I woke up to someone making a $5,000 investment in Heather’s Choice 🤯
It was one of those “spit out your coffee” kinda moments as I committed cardinal sin checking my email from bed 🥱☕️🛌
What blows my mind about this is I have no idea who this person is 🤷🏻♀️ From what I can tell, they live in Germany, and how the heck they found our campaign is a mystery to me!
If you are on the Heather’s Choice adventure, and you’ve bought from our website, picked up our products in store, invested via our community round, or all of the above, I want you to know your support does not go unnoticed!
I would have given up on this dream a LLLLOOOOONNNNGGGGGG time ago if it weren’t for the countless number of people who’ve showed up out of nowhere and said, “Hey! What you’re doing is awesome! I totally need this! I love your story! This is amazing! You’re going to be successful.”

Today, I want to share a LONG story in a short amount of time…let’s dive in!
Two years ago, Brad and I visited Ashland, Oregon, to tour an old almond butter processing facility.
Within 48 hours, we had toured the facility, made fast friends, went fly fishing, enjoyed wine tasting, and decided this would be our new home. It was a whirlwind trip that felt a little bit fated…
Over the next 24 months, we faced endless excitement, countless tears, epic highs, the lowest lows, and a novel’s worth of trials in pursuit of this dream. We knew we had to move the business out of Alaska to scale and grow, and this was our best shot.
After being turned down by 100s of investors, denied for a $2.6M SBA loan, filming Shark Tank, and enduring the hardest two years of my life, we’re FINALLY moving into the building I’ve known was ours from day one ✨
This move means everything for Heather’s Choice. For years, we’ve struggled to keep up with demand—space, logistics, staffing, raw materials, cash, you name it. Now, with this move, we’re setting the stage for our business to really grow…FINALLY! Those walk-in dehydrators I mentioned in 2019? Yep, we’re getting one…maybe two!

Born and raised in Alaska by a mother notorious for her organic good cooking, I've always had an appreciation for healthy delicious food.
When I left for college at Western Washington University, I was quickly recruited for the women's rowing team. From my first morning out on the water, I knew I wanted to excel at this sport. Our team was highly competitive, having already won two national championships. Deep down I understood that if I wanted to work my way into the varsity boat, I needed the best food I could get my hands on. For the duration of my rowing career, I struggled to find the right diet for optimal performance. I learned everything I could about nutrition, and eventually found a system that worked well for me and made sense! In the end, I helped my team win their fifth and sixth consecutive NCAA National Championships with a seat in the "engine room" of the varsity eight. I graduated in 2010 with a degree in Evolutionary Nutrition, eager to share the nutrition knowledge I had gained with other young athletes. From there, I went on to study at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, continuing my pursuit for dietary wisdom.
With all I had gleaned from my formal education, I switched from the high-carbohydrate diet of my collegiate rowing days to a Paleo-oriented nutrition plan that was geared towards CrossFit. In 2011, I began coaching fellow athletes through my first business; OPENutrition. It was unbelievably gratifying to help people find the right diet strategy, while encouraging them to cultivate a healthy and satisfying relationship with food.
That same year, I was invited on my first trip rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Fired up by my new found "high-performance diet plan", I dehydrated over 50 pounds of food for my month-long adventure. Turkey jerky, instant sweet potatoes, fruit leathers, and other creations were just a sampling of what I discovered was possible!
I continued to experiment with recipes on my own backcountry trips, and after sharing samples with a few adventurous friends I was encouraged to take the leap and start Heather's Choice in August of 2014. The name came from my mom, who had intended to start a line of organic baby food when I was young under the same name. She was too busy raising me to start the venture, so she gave me permission to use it, thanks mom!
My mission is to provide healthy, delicious, packable food for adventurers worldwide! Whether at home, on the road, or in the backcountry, you deserve to eat well. I hope to encourage more people to improve the quality of the food they eat, whether that is at home or in the backcountry.
