THE IMPACT YOU MAKE

During this Season of Giving, your generosity to Blue Lake makes it possible for us to continue to be set apart for life changing encounters with Christ. Because of you, individuals like Lisa find peace, acceptance, and their identity as a child of God in this special place.

Lisa Bond came to Blue Lake Camp for the first time when she was in junior high school. This was an anxious time in her life as she struggled to figure out who she was and often felt like she didn’t fit in. This changed for her at camp as she met other youth from different places. “It was freeing to be around people I didn’t know- connecting with others,” she recalled. Lisa experienced peace and acceptance among the other young people which helped her discover her identity as a child of God. She continues to be heavily involved at Blue Lake, bringing young people from her church to camp so they can have similar experiences.

As an adult, time at Blue Lake enables Lisa to leave the stresses of life and bask in the presence of God. “As I make the turn into the camp entrance, I feel lighter. It is like a breath prayer where I can breathe in Christ and leave everything else behind,” she shared. “Camp is a sacred space where I can flip the switch and reserve that time for God.”

For Lisa and so many others, Blue Lake Camp is a sacred place where the worries of life can be set aside so the love and peace of Christ can be experienced more fully.

As the end of the year approaches, we invite you to prayerfully consider making a generous gift of $25, $50, $150, $500, or even $1000 or more to support Blue Lake’s future. Gifts from donors like you allow us to continue our mission of making disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world while connecting people to God’s creation. You can give today by following the link below. Thank you for considering a gift that will provide transformative and life changing encounters with Christ.

In Gratitude,

SPIRITUAL HOME
Asher’s life was shaped by being a PK (Preacher’s Kid). Every 3 or 4 years his father would be appointed to serve a new congregation. With each move, Asher was challenged with a new home, new school, new acquaintances, and a new church community. This ever-changing life as a PK also meant that Asher never had a “home church”.
He began attending Blue Lake as a young child and found it to be the only constant in his life, his spiritual home. So, at the age of 16, Asher was thrilled to learn his father was appointed to be Director of Blue Lake and they would live in a home overlooking the lake.
Asher found it to be “a treat” to live at Blue Lake and says it changed his life. His dad immediately put him to work cutting grass, washing dishes, cleaning cabins, arranging chairs, making minor repairs and more. “Those chores helped me mature”, Asher reflected, “making me a ‘Jack of all Trades’”. When he was not working, Asher was content exploring the woods and lake where he found peace, solitude, and the presence of God.
Asher continues to be involved at Blue Lake in a variety of ways and says, “I pray that Blue Lake will always be a center of spiritual development and fulfillment for generations to come.”

MEAN-SPIRITED
As a child, Lacey began going to Fall Family Camp with her church family at Blue Lake.
As a middle schooler, Lacey felt awkward and insecure. She was trying to figure out her identity. She was also working to understand the qualities that made a true friendship. At school, she often saw girls being competitive and mean-spirited.
However, at Blue Lake, she felt she could relax and be herself. As a camper, she played games and swam with other children. In the intimacy of singing songs and worshipping God as a camp family group, Lacey experienced love and acceptance from other campers and counselors. Throughout her childhood of summers at camp, living a week at a time with other children created healthy and encouraging friendships.
At Blue Lake, she realized who Christ is calling us to be as a friend. “Going to Blue Lake shaped who I am and who my friends are.” Lacey reflects, “It made a difference in how I see friendships.” Many of the friendships she made throughout her years as a camper remain strong today.
Your generosity to Blue Lake Camp ensures that campers grow as individuals and in their relationships with others.

1. The AWF Conference has an online giving link and QR code. 100% of the money will continue to go to these conferences in need. Visit www.awfumc.org/helene
2. Assemble flood buckets. We initiated the flood bucket challenge weeks ago because we know this time of the year is when they are needed. Information and bucket contents may be found at www.awfumc.org/fbchallenge.
3. Rev. Ed Glaize out of the AWF Conference is the pastor at Boone UMC. The Boone, NC, area received extensive damage from Helene and the church is feeding the community through this ministry. You may give directly to Boone UMC through this link: https://pushpay.com/g/booneumc.
4. The conference is scheduling a “just in time” ERT Training to train teams on October 12. Registration link is under Quick Links on the home page of awfumc.org.
5. If your church cannot help in the above way due to limited resources, please schedule a dedicated time to pray for these survivors and communities.

Our History

Blue Lake United Methodist Assembly started as only a dream of a few people sitting on the shores of beautiful Blue Lake in the 1940's, but it was not until 1951 when the first camp was held. The campers that year wanted to be at camp so badly that they all slept in tents and all of the meals were cooked over a roaring campfire!

The first building was not built until the following year which was a stunning dining hall that overlooks the lake. When all of Pinewood was finished it would sleep 160 guests!

A lot has changed since those early days - there are now 3 separate modern camps (Pinewood, Dogwood, and Oakwood), all of which were built to meet the many different needs of our guests - all together we can now sleep 525! We are also much more than a summer camp, serving all kinds of guests and accommodating the needs of all different age groups and types of groups.
