Jennifer Dinwiddie has been working at Blue Lake since 2015 but knew a lot about this place long before that as her mother was involved with United Methodist Women for many years. “Meals and Memories are made here,” Jennifer said, “is a sentiment that has been so true for the past ten years. So much has changed, yet so much has stayed the same.”
Most of her time at Blue Lake has centered around feeding guests which is an important part of serving at camp. However, Jennifer also understands just how much goes on behind the scenes to keep Blue Lake running. She reflected, “Housekeepers, Maintenance, and the Office folks are the unsung heroes of Blue Lake. I mention these three groups because guests don’t always get an opportunity to interact with these hard-working folks who make Blue Lake a safe and comfortable place to be. Next time you visit Blue Lake, say hello and thank them for what they do.”
As her primary role at camp has been in food service, the kitchens hold a special place for her. She has worked with so many individuals with varying skill levels and found fulfillment in helping others develop new skills and confidence in the kitchen. “To see the pride in their eyes when a guest complimented food that they made was rewarding,” Jennifer said. “I also built relationships with not only staff but our guests. Over these past 10 years I met many people, and they would come back year after year, because Blue Lake is such a special place. No matter the age or the group, I believe that Blue Lake stays with a person for the rest of their life. I know it will for me.”
Jennifer will be leaving Blue Lake as an employee soon. “I’m going to spend time with my mother and write that book I’ve been putting off,” she said. “Take care of yourselves and when you think of Blue Lake, I hope you remember the special place that helped you on your spiritual journey and the friends you made along the way. Take care and may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
We thank Jennifer for her many years of service and contributions to Blue Lake. It has been a blessing to have her as part of our Blue Lake family!

THE IMPACT YOU MAKE
During this Season of Giving, your generosity to Blue Lake makes it possible for us to continue to be set apart for life changing encounters with Christ. Because of you, individuals like Lisa find peace, acceptance, and their identity as a child of God in this special place.
Lisa Bond came to Blue Lake Camp for the first time when she was in junior high school. This was an anxious time in her life as she struggled to figure out who she was and often felt like she didn’t fit in. This changed for her at camp as she met other youth from different places. “It was freeing to be around people I didn’t know- connecting with others,” she recalled. Lisa experienced peace and acceptance among the other young people which helped her discover her identity as a child of God. She continues to be heavily involved at Blue Lake, bringing young people from her church to camp so they can have similar experiences.
As an adult, time at Blue Lake enables Lisa to leave the stresses of life and bask in the presence of God. “As I make the turn into the camp entrance, I feel lighter. It is like a breath prayer where I can breathe in Christ and leave everything else behind,” she shared. “Camp is a sacred space where I can flip the switch and reserve that time for God.”
For Lisa and so many others, Blue Lake Camp is a sacred place where the worries of life can be set aside so the love and peace of Christ can be experienced more fully.
As the end of the year approaches, we invite you to prayerfully consider making a generous gift of $25, $50, $150, $500, or even $1000 or more to support Blue Lake’s future. Gifts from donors like you allow us to continue our mission of making disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world while connecting people to God’s creation. You can give today by following the link below. Thank you for considering a gift that will provide transformative and life changing encounters with Christ.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
We hope your day is filled with good food, great company, and lots of thankfulness! To celebrate, here are two of Blue Lake's classic recipes from our Cookbook!

Blue Lake United Methodist Assembly started as only a dream of a few people sitting on the shores of beautiful Blue Lake in the 1940's, but it was not until 1951 when the first camp was held. The campers that year wanted to be at camp so badly that they all slept in tents and all of the meals were cooked over a roaring campfire!
The first building was not built until the following year which was a stunning dining hall that overlooks the lake. When all of Pinewood was finished it would sleep 160 guests!
A lot has changed since those early days - there are now 3 separate modern camps (Pinewood, Dogwood, and Oakwood), all of which were built to meet the many different needs of our guests - all together we can now sleep 525! We are also much more than a summer camp, serving all kinds of guests and accommodating the needs of all different age groups and types of groups.
Blue Lake has had the privilege of receiving faithful support from numerous groups such as the United Methodist Women (donations and funding for new buildings), United Methodist Men (bunk bed renovation project and many other work days), and of course the NOMADS who complete several projects each year.
Despite the changes and improvements over the years, we continue to honor our rich history, the legacies of those that have gone before us, and the original mission and vision of Blue Lake United Methodist Camp.
