If there's one thing Marilyn Baker from Clay's Original Family Restaurant wants everyone to know, it's this: Jack is back!

Jack and Marilyn re-opened one of Steuben County's favorite restaurants in early November. "We are using the same original recipes Jack has used all these years," Marilyn said. "Some of our long-term employees have returned, including Amy who has baked our pies for more than 20 years."

Jack purchased the restaurant in 1975 and it quickly became famous for its pies, pot roast and breakfast buffet. Other popular menu items include spaghetti, the ham steak dinner and all-you-can-eat fish and shrimp on Friday and Saturday nights.

While the menu has stayed the same, there have been some updates to the interior. The restaurant, which seats 92, no longer has booths. The table bases have been painted black and some of the wooden chairs sport a fresh coat of jade-jewel paint.

Clay's, 7815 N. Old 27, Fremont, is open Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday from 8 to 7 p.m. and Sunday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The breakfast buffet is served both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

For those looking to enjoy those famous pies, Clay's is taking orders for Christmas. The deadline to order pies is Dec. 21. Flavors include apple, cherry, peach, rhubarb, rhappleberry, pecan, pumpkin, peanut butter, cream pies and Oops pie. Contact Clay's at (260) 668-6182.
