When staying at Zen Oasis, our favorite waterfront restaurant is Circles Waterfront Restaurant. Founded in 1998, it has been a popular award winning restaurant in the Tampa Bay area for years and is about a mile from Zen Oasis. Known for great sunset views, outdoor seating, boat parking and marina, lovely atmosphere, and delicious food. Our personal favorites are the Salmon meal or salad with salmon, sea bass, shrimp appetizer, and wings. We have found ourselves ordering takeout from there several times over the years.

Looking to get in a morning walk while staying at Zen Oasis? Walking to and from the Apollo Beach Preserve is usually about a 4 mile walk round trip on a paved sidewalk the entire way. You can expect to hear the birds chirping, say hi to other people and dogs out on their walk, and view several gorgeous homes. There are several other roads lined with sidewalks you can walk to increase your miles. At the preserve, sit at a bench, covered picnic table, dip your toes in the water, walk in the sand, meditate watching the water, or stroll along a nature path. In addition, you can walk up an observation tower to see for miles to downtown St Pete or downtown Tampa.

This morning just after sunrise, we had dolphins up and down the canal feeding off and on for 10-15 minutes. It was so magical watching them breach, hearing them blow, listening to the birds singing all around us, and feeling the fresh salty air breeze and sun on our faces.

Stingray shuffle? Do you know what the stingray shuffle is? Have you or anyone you know ever been stung by a stingray? When visiting the Florida beaches (or any beach for that matter) make sure to use the stingray shuffle to minimize your chances of stepping on and being stung by a stingray.

If stung by a stingray, get a lifeguard for immediate help. Soaking in hot water is said to possibly decrease the immediate pain. In some cases, you may need to seek help from a medical professional as well.

Since Zen Oasis is on the water, you may find yourself wanting to stand-up paddleboard (SUP) around the canals. Paddle boarding can be fun, relaxing, and a great workout but making sure you are prepared and safe are of utmost importance.

Here are a few highlights from the US Coast Guard (USCG) and things we remind everyone, but it is your responsibility to make sure you do your own research:

- Per USCG, you must have a USCG approved life jacket. To use our paddleboard, we require a life jacket be worn for safety
- Per USCG, you must have a sound making device such as a whistle on board - At night you need to have some kind of light
- Per USCG, certain areas, you should have flares
- Stay out of boat's way and out of the middle of channels, remember they can only maneuver so much and they may not see you
- Always tell someone where you are going
- Take a phone or radio with you, preferably in a waterproof floating bag or wrapped around your neck
- Remember certain stagnant waters, especially in the hot months, may be breading grounds for bacteria
- Wear foot coverings. Sharp barnacles/mussels and other items you may knowingly or unknowingly step on can easily slice skin open
- Learn the tides and make sure your plans to leave and return will not interfere with launching or returning safely
Although many paddleboards are lightweight, while carrying the board, the wind can easily rip a board out of your hand

The Zen Oasis pool was converted in 2021 from a chlorine only pool to a salt water pool. Do you prefer salt water or straight chlorine pools and why? Have you noticed a difference in the way your skin feels while swimming and after?
