Sunrise at Kuwohi Mountain, the highest point in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Interesting place; they tell me this park gets more visitors than Yellostone, Yosemite, and Grand Canyon combined; and they are all here this week!

Today we arrived in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Kind of like Yosemite, Yellowstone, and Disneyland all in one place. Beautiful place if you don't mind bumper to bumper traffic. Heading for the mountain top at sunrise tomorrow.

Red letter day! Visited Cuyahoga Valley National Par in Cleveland, Ohio. Now we are headed for California.
Cuyahoga is an interesting National Park. No waterfalls or geysers, it is a celebration of what was a very polluted industrialized river being cleaned up. A lot of history; we rode the scenic railroad and visited the locks on the historic Ohio &Erie Canal.

Why you might ask am I driving almost 7,000 miles in the month of October. The answer is to drive the 469 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and see the fall foliage in all of it's glory. So you can understand how disappointed i am with Hurricane Helene.

Here is the official announcement by the National Park Service. "Blue Ridge Parkway to be closed indefinitely. The country’s most-visited national park site, the Blue Ridge Parkway, will remain closed indefinitely, the National Park Service said Wednesday.

The closure affects the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway, in North Carolina and Virginia, though some parts were hit harder than others by storm damage. It comes right as the region and scenic road typically see a boom in tourism, as weather cools and the leaves change colors."

We have all ready adjusted our plans.

Quest to visit every National Park took us to Isle Royale on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan yesterday. Reportedly the least visited park in the continental USA. I can see why, it is not freeway or airport close to anything and since it is on an Island that is only accessible by a long boat ride six months out of the year. Once you get to the 48 mile island you are restricted to travel as a backpacker or by kayak. But it the island is worthy of its designation

For the fourth time in my life I have embarked on a cross country automobile trip. This is something everyone should do every decade or so. It is amazing to witness the size and sights. It is also fun to meet the folks, so far everyone has been very nice.

I have been asking myself what is the real threat Donald Trump poses for all those who are so vehemently opposed to his candidacy. I think I have figured it out. There are a lot of people who have done a lot of things they don't want anybody to find out and make public. There is a deep (we'll founded) fear that Trump is the kind of guy who will unseal a lot of sealed files and with the help of Elon Musk eliminate a lot of unnecessary government employees and other expenses.

I attended a street fair last week where there were three booths selling MAGA and Trump stuff. One small booth from the other folks had some small white flags and free frayed copies of Das Kapital.

I asked Microsoft CoPilot (artificial intelligene) to tell me about Modern Monetary Theory. The response was, "an imaginary economic theory put forth by adherents to the thinking of Democrats that say you can spend money you don't have with no consequences!'
