City of Portland it’s time to stop making affordable housing so difficult to even build! Seriously over 2 years to PULL a permit! WHY? Why is the City of Portland so dysfunctional when it comes to building ANY housing BUT especially truly AFFORDABLE housing !! Meanwhile the homeless problem is getting worse. Your asking for more money yet you don’t track how effective or LACK there of the city’s process to get permits to build.
Look inside first… civic life is still dysfunctional and the city won’t recognize SWNI as district coalition for Southwest and refuses to provide SWNI with money to provide service to SW Portland resident’s.
SW neighborhoods have ALREADY voted and want SWNI to be officially recognized by the city as SWDistrict coalition.
It’s time the city STOP acting like they know what their doing following ONI Standards and 3.96 and undue the severe HARM the city has caused SW Portland by NOT proving services or financial assistance as it does with ALL the other neighborhood Associations.

OREGON SURFING: PAST AND PRESENT #649

Surfer Mitch Allara sent us this interesting newspaper article from around 1955. The caption reads: 'Breaker Bags - Anne Coeman (center foreground) of Cannon Beach rides one of her "Breaker Bags" in churning Oregon coast surf. She started making them out of old sheets for her children several years ago. Now son Hal and two of his friends are marketing the improved cloth models."

Mitch who sent us this article comments about the breaker bags ... "Breaker Bags were the rage of surfing white water waves from Arch Cape origins in the early 1950's. Ann Coleman made them out of "bed sheets" sewn into a large pillow bags. Hal Coleman years later marketed improved cloth models".

We've never heard of these Breaker Bags before and wonder if anyone else can remember these bags being used around Cannon Beach in the 1950's?
