Let’s hear it for Alejandro, our phenomenal saxophonist whose journey with us began all way back in 2013 on the Carnival Triumph!
Then in 2016, Alejandro made the swap over to Royal Caribbean and has since been serenading audiences aboard the Anthem and Ovation of the Seas with his soulful melodies and magnetic stage presence. 🎶⭐️
Currently, Alejandro is enthralling guests on the Ovation as part of the Spectra’s Cabaret Two70 cast, a role he’ll be dazzling in until September, bopping back and forth and raising his instrument up high!

So. Let’s talk about what we can do on board when we’re not on stage.
When we aren’t dazzling guests with our performances, there are some pretty cool ways to spend our free time! 🎶🚢
Here are 3 ideas:
1. Explore the Ship: Cruise ships are floating cities, equipped with numerous amenities and activities. Musicians can explore the different sections of the ship, from the gym and spa to the pool and lounges. 🏋️🏊 Many ships offer sports facilities, theaters, and even classes on various topics, providing endless opportunities for entertainment and relaxation. Friendly reminder: the guests come first!
2. Learn New Skills: Ever wanted to learn a new language, how to play a new instrument, or try your hand at cooking? Many cruise ships offer crew members the chance to take part in various educational and skill-building activities. Musicians can learn languages, take cooking classes, or even delve into photography. 👩🍳🎹📸 Expanding your skill set can be both enjoyable and beneficial for your future and various career paths.
3. Stay Connected: Keeping in touch with family and friends back home is important for maintaining emotional well-being. Many cruise ships offer internet access, so we can use our downtime to catch up with loved ones, share our experiences, and stay connected to our support networks. 📞👨👩👦👦

Ahem. Here we go.
Working on a cruise ship is an adventure every day. 🌄
One of the best parts is getting off the ship when we dock in different ports. So many opportunities to do cool stuff — like going on a scuba diving excursion in Roatan, for example! 🤿 But before we hit the town, there are a few steps to follow.
First of all, where are you in the world? Are you in Mexico 🇲🇽 and exposed to Caribbean heat? Or are you in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and it’s freezing cold?
Make sure you dress appropriately and that you don’t get sick. 🤒 As a musician on board, you’re part of a bigger team, and people rely on you. Being isolated in your cabin when being sick is not fun either, so please watch out for your health.
When leaving and re-entering the ship we have to go through security checks, just like at the airport. 🔐 It’s all about making sure everyone stays safe. Once we’re cleared, it’s time to explore!
And there’s one golden rule: don’t lose track of time. ⏰ Go out, have fun and hang out with your friends. Explore the ports, disconnect from ship life, and freshen up your mind. 🧠✨ [If you’re planning to party please drink responsibly!]
But the ship runs on a tight schedule and it won’t wait if you’re late. If you miss the departure it’s a big problem — not just for you, but for your whole team. So, while we enjoy our time on land, visiting new places and having fun, we always keep an eye on the clock. After all, being a crew member means balancing adventure with responsibility. 🫡

Since joining our ranks a handful of years ago, Mpho has been lending his sweet vocals 🎤 and tasty chops to Royal Caribbean 👑 ships around the world. 🌍
And just a few weeks ago, he joined the Allure, where he’ll be performing for the masses and frequenting Coco Cay — a favorite port of his 🏝️ — until late July.

Well, it’s time for a laundry session! 🧺
Every ship 🛳️ has a crew laundry with washing machines, dryers, and ironing boards. The company also provides you with detergent and dryer sheets so you can save a little 💸.
Sometimes it can get quite busy, and all the machines happen to be taken. #ShipTip: once on board, do a little research, discover those slower, less-busy times, and do your laundry then. 🧠
In some cases you can hand over your more delicate work clothes [suits, etc] to your cabin steward and they’ll help get those items laundered. 🧼
If you end up playing in a houseband, performing shows on stage in costume, you might have to partake in costume washings. [Be aware that this doesn’t apply to certain lines and certain positions.] 🧽
In these situations, one band member per cruise usually has the responsibility of washing the the costumes for the whole band. 🫧 It usually doesn’t take up much time, and not all pieces have to be washed — it’s mostly certain shirts and pants, as they often get a bit sweaty during high-energy performances. 💧
The audience doesn’t see this part of our job, but it’s definitely important, as we all want to look nice and shiny on stage! 💫

Fri-Yay yet again, and we’re proud to bring you the great Julian Franji!
On dry land, Julian is a citizen of Argentina 🇦🇷⚽️, but at sea, he’s a resident of the Regent Seven Seas Grandeur, having embarked in early March to join the ship’s houseband on guitar. 🎸
And with two months of sailing 🌊 under his belt, it’s safe to say he’s having a blast and super happy with the job! 💫
Fun fact: Señor Franji is a native Spanish speaker, but he’s become so used to English that even when another Spanish speaker says hi, he’ll shoot back in English without skipping a beat! 🗣️

Excited to introduce Ship Life with Lime: a May mini-series that will cover a range of topics related to life on board. 🛳️
First up: the gym! 🏋️ 👟
Most ships have a crew and a guest gym, and both are fully equipped like any other commercial gym on land. Along with free weights and machines you’ll also find cardio equipment like treadmills and bikes. 🏃♀️ 🚲
The crew gym is usually a smaller space inside the ship whilst the guest gym is much larger.
Depending on the cruise line, crew has access to the guest gym, too. The general rule is that if the guest gym isn’t too crowded, crew can go. Always remember, though: the guests come first! 🤸♂️
The benefit of working out at the guest gym is that it’s usually located on the upper decks of the ship, which means you can enjoy a nice view during your workout. 🐳
Working on the ship as an artist is the perfect opportunity to get in shape because you basically have a gym right at your doorstep. 🚪 Not a bad deal! 💪

Another spotlight Fri-Yay, and our absolute pleasure to feature the one-and-only Martin Allen!
Hailing from Jamaica 🇯🇲, with the golden voice 🎤 and the nimble ivory-tickling fingers to match 🎹, Martin was welcomed into the #LimeFam with open arms in 2022, and promptly shipped out to join the Azamara Onward.
Two years later, and Mr Allen is still tearing it up at sea 🌊, with another return to Onward scheduled for July.
Okay, now storytime:
One year, back on land, he was wondering how to celebrate his upcoming birthday, but then was hired for a "very good gig” on that exact day 💰. He didn't know anything about it, but when he arrived, it turned out he would be performing for Harry Styles' birthday party 🎉, who happened to be in Jamaica for HIS birthday.
Both celebrated in a big way, but Martin didn't play any One Direction songs. Probably for the best.
Between Harry and you, we’d choose you, Marty! 💚 [Although we wouldn’t complain if Harry also joined the LimeFam.]

Since leaving the beautiful-and-wet Pacific northwest for a floating stage in the middle of the ocean back in 2022, Andrew hasn’t looked back, finding a new home with Princess Cruises 👑 as their houseband guitarist. 🎸
From the Ruby to the Sapphire, Andrew’s slowly moving his way through all ships with names of gemstones, though his favorite ship is the Enchanted (bucking that trend) and favorite itinerary the Mediterranean (can’t blame him). 🍝🏛⛲️
Currently aboard the Caribbean, he has the Coral to look forward to come July, and then the Diamond in November. 💎
Proud of you, Andrew! Princess clearly loves you, and so do we! Keep kickin’ it out there! 👟💚
Spotlight o’clock! 🔦🕰 And who better to feature than Jose Perez?
Hailing from Argentina 🇦🇷 ⚽️, Jose is on the tail end of his first contract aboard Royal Caribbean, as the orchestra pianist on the Anthem of the Seas, and the ship is super happy with his playing. Which means we’re super happy! 😃
This isn’t Jose’s first foray on ships, but it is his first with Lime, and we couldn’t be happier that he came to us to find him a sweet gig out at sea. 🌊
And when Señor Perez isn’t tickling those ivories, floating on top of the ocean, he’s observing spectacular nature beneath the surface as a certified PADI open water diver! 🤿
Pumped that you’ll be returning to Anthem later this year, Jose! Enjoy your final cruises on board, and have a fabulous start to your vacation! 🎹💫

Tomas comes to us from sunny [and oft rainy] England 🇬🇧, joining forces with Lime this past fall and then boarding the Celebrity Silhouette 👤 as the orchestra drummer, from which he just recently disembarked last month. And turns out they loved him on board — a win for everyone! 🥇
Next month, Mr Remblence returns to the Celebrity fleet for ship #2 aboard Edge, and he’s already got his ship after that locked in: Reflection 🪞, where he’ll be sailing until it’s 2025! 🎉

Hailing from Argentina 🇦🇷⚽️, Agus joined our #LimeFam just a few months ago, but it didn’t take long for him to vault from South America northward to Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas.
Since then, he’s transferred over to the Voyager of the Seas, where he’s been holding down the rhythm section with his steady fingers and sweet comping 🎹, and he’s just about to wrap up his assignment and head home.
Thanks for your professionalism and your musicianship, Agus — that Royal gig ain’t an easy one! Keep up those sweet improv chops 🎶, and fly safe! ✈️ 💚
