Don't WAIT! If you have water damage in your home or business be sure to take action. Water sitting for more than 48 hours can start growing mold. Here are the proper steps for drying out your structure:
1. Remove the excess water. Extract the water using a vacuum type unit and make several passes over the areas until free water is removed. If there is contents in the area, remove all that you can from the area to prevent damage and to the contents.
2. If you have a carpeted area that is wet, check the pad to see if it is wet. Many pads will not dry out and will extend the length of drying to over a week. If you have a pad under the carpet you may want to remove it and lay the carpet back down.
3. Use airmovers to dry the walls, baseboards, and carpet (floors). Place the airmovers approximately every 10 to 14 feet at a 45 degree angel to the wall to create a vortex of air movement, which will help move the water airborne.
4. Use commercial dehumidifiers to remove the water from the air and dispose of the water properly into a sanitary sewer outlet (toilet, sink, etc)
5. Once completely dry, reinstall structural components.
6. Be sure to clean the carpet using a Professional Cleaning company who will properly remove the soils and contaminates from the flood.
