Hiker Tip #1: Staying dry on multi-day trips.
Staying dry on multi-day trips can be a more difficult task than many suspect. You would think a good rain jacket would do the trick, when in fact, it is about balancing rain protection, with core temperature insulation, moisture wicking layers, and air flow.
Too much protection, means less airflow. Too little airflow, and you will get wet from the inside out, which can lead to hypothermia or just being damp an uncomfortable.
If concerned about how to stay dry and warm, particularly when backpacking in the humid Appalachian mountains, feel free to reach out, and I’d be glad to help you learn the best way to use your gear and what clothing you will need to be comfortable/safe on your trek.
