I hope this message finds everyone safe. The hurricane has severely affected Asheville and the surrounding areas, making it feel as if we’ve stepped back in time to 1916—it's truly surreal. It’s difficult to get a charge on a cell phone or to get any cell service. The community in West Asheville has come together remarkably, with neighbors supporting one another during this challenging time. However, we still have a long way to go before we return to normalcy. It seems it’s going to take years to put Asheville back . Most individuals are enduring hardships without power, cell service, and there has been no water.
Here at the West Asheville history Museum … I have been busy preparing transistor radios to distribute to neighbors, enabling them to stay informed about the news. We are in need of additional radios and batteries, as people are incredibly grateful to receive updates. It’s hard to believe that these old radios are coming in handy. Many of the side streets have been blocked in West Asheville by large trees. I have seen many houses and cars crushed .
The whole West Asheville Haywood road has been busy with so many trucks coming in ..bringing food and water. The restaurants on Haywood rd have been so nice to provide free meals to the neighbors! healthy meals, including breakfast and lunch
The West Asheville history Museum will return with updates
