Ashfield Tools are high quality, handcrafted tools made from locally supplied materials in Massachusetts. Each tool is hand-forged with high-carbon tool steel using traditional blacksmithing techniques. Ashfield Tools are sturdy and long-lasting, designed to work well and enhance the gardening experience. We use 400 series cutlery grade stainless steel in our blades. This material will hold a shar
p edge. While forging this type of steel, the surface blackens and loses some rust resistance. Any rust that forms will be on a superficial level and can easily be removed with a wire brush or abrasive pad (such as steel wool.) All of our tools are wire brushed and an oil finish is applied to both the steel surfaces and the wood handles. Care and Maintenance: when necessary, clean the tool with a wire brush or with steel wool or other abrasive pad. You can then apply a coating of oil, such as linseed oil, an oil based wood finish, or even cooking oil to the steel. Also applying oil to the wood handle periodically will help keep it in good condition. We stand behind our tools no matter how much abuse they get. We have never had a tool come back to us but if you ever have a problem we will gladly restore or replace the tool at no charge.
