Sunday 8/24
No better way to go out with a bang then to do it with 10’ waves! We had a blast with some family & friends for our last trip of the season. We knew it was going to be bumpy with the small craft that was issued, but the weather was going to be sunny and relatively warm, so we capitalized. On the way out…we were greeted with steady 5-7s out of the NE. We chugged along @ 18mph and cut right through the rollers to our starting point. We couldn’t get our boards to pull correctly….the slack the board line created on the back side of the waves let the board wander…so we nixed that plan and just ran 6 dipsies and 2 flat lined wires. The fish showed us right away that they didn’t care and our dipsies started firing. The wind started to howl and the lake started to build even more. Not much longer after, we found ourselves in 8-10’ rollers while fish were basically jumping in the boat. They always have said big waves = big fish and we are very firm believers in that. We put together one hell of a box of 32 fish in about 2 hours. Not too shabby for the conditions! There has never really been anything we have worried about the 34’ King Cats handling….they thrive in rough water environments. We love showing customers that you can fish safely and somewhat comfortably in not-always-perfect conditions. I will post a season recap sometime this week when I get the chance….but in the meantime…we cannot thank our clients enough for all the support you guys continually show for us every single year. We had another record breaking year this year….and I can’t wait to tell you ALL about it!!!
DISCLAIMER: Yes it’s rough. Yes you can fish it safely. We would never put anyone or ourselves in dangers way. It is always at the discretion of your captain on what they are comfortable with and if they should or should not take their crews out on a rough lake. We fish rough water more frequently than anyone out of our port and we do it ALWAYS with everyone
After we fixed her back up with a reel 🤣🤣🤣
Downrigger fun!!! A 27” slob on the baby pole 🔥
We made the decision this morning to hold off for a bit from normal departure time to let the lake figure itself out. It went from a strong south wind when I woke up to an even stronger west wind @ about 20 sustained and we were trying to get our game plan together if Jim R. & his crew gave us the O-K. We fish rough water 90% of the time that the opportunity presents itself…and quite frankly…we love it. We let them know what to expect and what our thoughts were. They gave us the green light at 8:30am and we made our way through the hole to see what was going on. Immediately the decision was made that we were making the trek offshore and going to make one big long slide and see what we could do, as a few of the guys had a time they needed to be back by. It was 1.5 hr. boat ride at about 18mph in the ditch. We spun it around, got bags out to slow her down a bit, and started setting wire. We started picking right away with our 300 wire 50 over with Kabooms. They definitely were the performer today, as 24a’s only caught 4 or 5 fish on the day. It was a steady pick of two on at a time usually. We scored our fellas a really really nice box of fish and they were grinning ear to ear. Not bad for 3 hours of fishing time! We will see you guys on Saturday for another round!!!
We’re ready! Are you?!
If you haven’t booked your trip yet, you should get on it! We only have a few weekend dates left and our books fill fast. We can accommodate large groups, bachelor/bachelorette parties, family reunions, guys/gals weekends, business trips, etc. with both of our 34’ King Cats. You won’t want to miss this year of fishing! It’s going to be the BEST YET! 330-207-3860 Capt. Dave.
