U.S. Soccer has completed a comprehensive review of player registration formats, incorporating feedback from over 15,000 stakeholders. Starting in the fall of 2026, sanctioning bodies will have the option to register players by either birth year or school year, allowing flexibility to better serve diverse community needs. For the 2025/26 season, the current registration system will remain unchanged, providing stability as organizations prepare for potential transitions. U.S. Soccer plans to finalize implementation guidelines by March 2025 and will offer resources, training, and forums to assist clubs and leagues in making informed decisions and managing any changes smoothly.
