A few weeks ago, we had the honor of celebrating 50 years of West End Neighborhood Development by honoring a few of our neighborhood pioneers at our 50th anniversary celebration. We'd like to highlight Robert Thompson for the Cultural Ambassador Award:
Economic Development Leadership: Served as Executive
Director of Creating Vibrant Communities, conducting a community asset inventory of the West End that identified cultural, tourism, and urban agriculture assets as key strengths.
Cultural Tourism Pioneer: Founded Insight Cultural Tourism and
secured a $100,000 grant from the Beltline Partnership to develop cultural tourism in the West End. Developed and led tours
showcasing the area's historical, artistic, and agricultural assets, reaching over 1,000 participants.
Urban Agriculture Advocate: Led the Southwest Atlanta Growers
Co-op as Executive Director, promoting urban agriculture initiatives
throughout Southwest Atlanta.
Arts and Music Champion: Chaired the board for Music in the
Park, an organization that fosters music and art in the community and produces the annual Music in the Park Festival. Additionally,
contributed 13 years of service to the Hammonds House Museum in various roles.
