What used to be a bank is now an ultra cool multi-story artists' loft in Paris' 1st arrondissement. After the French bank Credit Lyonnais closed this branch at 59 Rue de Rivoli, in the late 1990's artists took over and started using the space to create, exhibit their work and to host parties. The city of Paris at first planned to evict the squatters. But because the gallery started receiving so much positive media attention, they changed their minds and let the artists stay. The spiral staircase goes up multiple stories that take you to the individual artist ateliers. It's so cool to see the creatives at work and to see so many different styles of art. If you're an art lover, this place is not to be missed!

Did you know that Galeries Lafayette (Blvd Haussmann location) is more than a shopping destination? Each level of the department store features mini experiences, usually involving food and drink. Whenever I'm in Paris, I make it a point to go there and spend half the day going from one level to another and basically just hanging out! Here are my favorite stops at the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann.

📍EL & N Café for brunch - 4th floor (coupole)
📍Coutume Coffee Shop for good espresso drinks- 3rd floor (coupole)
📍Le Bar de la Cave for Champagne and wines by the glass- 2nd floor (Galeries Gourmet food hall)
📍Rooftop for city views- 8th floor (coupole)
The "Coupole" refers to the main store with the stained glass dome at 40 Blvd Haussman. The food hall is in a separate building across the street at 35 Blvd Haussman.

This luxury pastry shop by Louis Vuitton sits just across from the Pont Neuf. The gourmet selections prepared by Chef Maxime Frédéric offer guests a dream experience. You'll find this pâtisserie inside of the LV Dream exhibit, upstairs on the 2nd floor (European 1st floor). Walk-ins are totally doable for the pastries (lunch may need reservations), but there may be a wait. Just a heads-up that they usually do sell out of certain items and so the later you go, the fewer the options. My favorite is the monogrammed LV chocolate and hazlenut cake which I like to have with their Moët Brut Rosé. C'est absolument génial! When you arrive, just ask the doormen for the "café or pâtisserie s'il vous plaît" and don't forget to say "bonjour"!

Looking for something to do that's off the beaten path in Paris? How about one of the lesser- known museums like the Musée Zadkine in the 6th arrondissement? This former home and atelier of Russian sculptor Ossip Zadkine is located in a hidden courtyard just steps from the Jardin du Luxembourg, and unless you know exactly where to look, it's very easy to miss. Once you arrive, you'll notice that you are among mostly locals. Besides the collection in the atelier (separate house from the main house), I really loved spending time admiring the sculptures in the peaceful garden. But shhhhh...don't let the Parisians know that I was the one who told you about this hidden gem🙊🙉🙈. Free admission, except for temporary exhibits.

As a son of Haitian immigrants, artist Patrick Eugène incorporates African diasporic connections between Haiti and continental North America within an intuitive practice that connects his work to everyday people.
Seven years after launching her gallery in Seattle, Mariane Ibrahim moved their space to Chicago in 2019. In September 2021, the gallery opened their inaugural European space in Paris and in 2023 opened a location in Mexico City. The gallery has hosted acclaimed exhibitions, with a founding focus on the African diaspora, from leading and emerging artists.
Art admirers can catch Ibrahim's exhibits in Paris this fall from October 11 to November 30, 2024, or in Chicago November 15, 2024 to Jan 25, 2025. Patrick Eugène can be found at his studio at the @thegoatfarm, which Eugène also plans to incorporate a listening room and brewery.
