Jackie told Reagan about his favorite trip to Canada. It’s no surprise she wanted to go to Canada for her graduation trip with her Poppy and me. We told her to invite one of her friends and we left almost 2 weeks ago.

On the way to Montreal, we stopped overnight in Roanoke, Va. & Poughkeepsie, NY. We had a great time in Montreal, visiting many of the landmarks and trying the local cuisine.

We headed to Niagra Falls as a central location to visit Toronto, Niagara Falls State Park and Buffalo, NY.

Reagan had Cincinnati Zoo on her bucket list & her friend wanted to go to the aquarium. We spent a couple of days there to visit both sites before heading home.

The trip was fantastic! The weather was perfect every day, except our day trip to Toronto. We still managed to catch the ferry to Center Island and enjoyed some sightseeing before the weather got really bad.

Book Lovers Excursion

Let us plan an excursion for your book club!

Some members of West End Readers Book Club traveled to the Indigo House outside of Charlottesville, Va. to listen to culinary historian and chef, Dr. Leni Sorensen. Her extensive knowledge of black cooks/chefs took us through a journey of enslaved and freed people that contributed to America’s culinary history.

She prepared our meal from the 1824 cookbook, The Virginia House-Wife by Mary Randolph. Many of the recipes originated from enslaved cooks.

Each course complimented the previous one & the recipe was an original. Did not take a picture of the 2nd course: grilled salmon patty with a green salad & special dressing. The desert was a homemade raspberry jam mixed with and whipped cream. It was fluffy & yummy.

The 2nd day, we visited Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello Plantation to see where Sally Hemings and her children were allegedly kept. Afterwards. We had dinner at The Ridley located in the Peabody hotel downtown. The restaurant honors Dr. Charles Ridley, the first black graduate of University of Virginia.

We traveled to DC on the 3rd day to visit the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. On the way there, we spotted Moo Thru, and some members decided to get ice cream. The line was wrapped around the building, so we knew it would be good!

Next year, we’ll travel to New York to the The Morgan library & Museum ( The Personal Librarian).
