Major kudos to American Airlines CEO Doug Parker. During this difficult time it is a good thing to see leaders, and others, taking an active role in understanding someone else’s point of view. We need more of this.

American Airlines CEO Doug Parker was flying Southwest Airlines out of Dallas to end the week, an airline he's called 'the cattle car'. A flight attendant notices the book he brought on board, but not who he is. He's not her CEO, after all. Parker was reading White Fragility: Why It's So Hard For Wh...

Delta Air Lines will pay LATAM Airlines $62 million for cancelling their agreement for Delta to purchase four of LATAM’s already delivered Airbus A350 aircraft, LATAM said in a court filing.

As part of new agreement, LATAM gained protection Delta would not use LATAM’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing to cancel the joint-venture they signed earlier this month.

Delta further agreed to not to exercise termination rights…in the event that LATAM were to file for Chapter 11.

Delta Air Lines and LATAM have modified their partnership agreement as Latin America’s largest airline group files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring.

LATAM Airlines affiliates in Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina aren’t part of the bankruptcy case, which was filed in the Southern District of New York.

Still, the impact will be felt widely, with Santiago-based Latam previously serving more than 70 million passengers a year on more than 300 aircraft. It also carried more than $7 billion of debt.

“What we have to do is we have to right-size the airline from a cost perspective, to make sure that what we find next year is cash positive," Kerr said. "We are going to look at all of this staffing in the fall, all the staffing next year.” Derek Kerr CFO American Airlines

The return of the “right-size” term signals how airlines are going to cut down on massive costs with a fraction of the customers they had a year ago. Its use was common in the industry during the Great Recession and was synonymous with layoffs, pay cuts and slashed benefits.

American Airlines will need to “right-size” the company heading into fall and 2021 as it deals with the continuing damage to air travel from the COVID-19...
