With football season upon us a new water fountain and water bottle refilling station at Carr Field was officially opened and dedicated Tuesday afternoon.
The water fountain was one of 12 installed at various locations throughout the city’s park’s system. The project was a collaboration between the City of Auburn, Auburn Parks & Recreation Department, Auburn Main Street and Junior Auburn Main Street.
Tuesday’s ribbon cutting officially dedicated the Carr Field water fountain in honor of the late Bill Walters, a career firefighter from 1969 to 1991 with the Auburn Fire Department.
Walters, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict served as fire chief for the Auburn Fire Department from 1972 to 1991. He then served as a volunteer firefighter for the Jackson Township Fire Department from 1991 to 2012 and the Waterloo/Grant Township Fire Department from 2012 until the time of his death.
The new water fountains brought the city’s water fountains up to ADA standards.

The Early Ford V-8 Foundation & Museum, with its captivating collection of classic Ford vehicles, presented an irresistible temptation. Robbie Wolfe, known for his role on American Pickers, had vowed at the start of the year to refrain from purchasing any new cars, but the museum’s displays proved to be rather tempting. Inspired by the museum’s displays, Wolfe couldn’t help but think about how these historical aspects could enrich his own shop. The Early Ford V-8 Foundation & Museum not only offered a glimpse into automotive history but also sparked a renewed appreciation for the bygone era of service and craftsmanship. #EarlyFordV8 #FordMuseum #ClassicCars #AmericanPickers #RobbieWolfe #CarHistory #VintageVehicles #AutomotiveHeritage #CarCollector #MotorHistory #HistoricalCars #FordLegacy #CarEnthusiast #MuseumVisit #VintageFord

Robbie Wolfe, from *American Pickers*, recently visited the Early Ford V-8 Foundation & Museum to explore the fascinating history of the 1936 Ford Tudor Deluxe sedan. Along with five other sedans produced at the same time, these vehicles were commissioned by Allegheny Ludlum as promotional tools. They served a dual purpose: showcasing the benefits of stainless steel and incentivizing the sales team by offering a year of free use to top performers. Each sedan enjoyed a decade of service, accumulating around 200,000 miles. However, their durability came with significant challenges. The production process strained Ford's tooling, which was initially designed for standard carbon steel, not high-chromium stainless steel. Adjustments had to be made to the stamping dies, and assembling the cars using the gas welding technology of that period proved difficult.#RobbieWolfe #AmericanPickers #FordTudor #ClassicCars #EarlyFordV8 #AutomotiveHistory #VintageCars #CarCollectors #StainlessSteel #FordHistory #CarMuseum #AntiqueCars #CarRestoration #ClassicCarEnthusiast #VintageFord #FordSedan #AutomotiveEngineering #CarCulture #HistoricalVehicles

An amazing turnout yesterday for the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum to celebrate their 50th birthday! Many presentations and fascinating info provided by the staff and volunteers!
Robbie Wolfe, known for his discerning eye and passion for historical artifacts on American Pickers, recently found himself captivated by the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum. Eager to explore its latest addition featuring the Simplex, Robbie immersed himself in its rich history and discoveries while quickly taking note of the 1921 Duesenberg Model A #1. Engineers and race car builders, August and Fred Duesenberg launched the company with their Straight Eight – later known as the Model A. Built in Indianapolis, the Duesenberg brand would become synonymous with automotive excellence, opulence, and engineering. The company’s first production car was custom-ordered by the Hawaiian industrialist Samuel Northrup Castle in 1919. After delays, he took possession in 1921 and would become the first owner of a Duesenberg passenger car. Featuring custom coachwork by the Bender Body Company of Cleveland, Ohio this vehicle’s ultra-spacious interior was produced specifically for Mr. Castle’s seven-foot-tall stature. A host of mechanical advances for the time included four-wheel hydraulic brakes and the industry’s first overhead cam straight-eight-cylinder passenger car engine. The 1921 Duesenberg Straight Eight remained in the Castle family for virtually 100 years until the decision was made in to entrust the Museum with its future stewardship. #Stinson #VisitDeKalb #VisitIndiana #AmericanPickers #duesenberg Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum Robert Wolfe Picker #stinson #visitdekalb #visitindiana American Pickers on The History Channel
Robbie Wolfe, known for his astute appreciation of historical items on American Pickers, ventured into the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum with a fervent curiosity to uncover its newest Simplex addition. The Simplex Automobile Company, founded by Herman Broesel, Sr., acquired assets from the New York firm Smith & Mabley. Active from 1907 to 1919, Simplex became renowned for its American cars during the pre-1915 Brass Era. Introduced in 1911, the Model 38 was notable for its innovations such as shaft drive and a four-speed manual transmission. Production was limited, with 200 units in 1912; today, only twelve are known to exist. The Model 38 featured a large four-cylinder engine in two monobloc castings and was meticulously crafted with a robust chassis, premium wood, and leather, reflecting its $4,850 price tag (other Simplex models exceeded $6,000). The company employed coachbuilders to create bodies, with the featured vehicle showcasing a meticulously reproduced tourer body in the Holbrook style. **SPECIFICATIONS:** - Model: 38 Four-passenger Tourer - Wheelbase: 127 inches - Engine: Four-cylinder, T-head - Transmission: Four-speed, sliding gear - Displacement: 476 cubic inches - Horsepower: 38 - Price When New: $4,850 #Stinson #VisitDeKalb #VisitIndiana #AmericanPickers #duesenberg Robert Wolfe Picker #stinson #visitdekalb #visitindiana American Pickers on The History Channel

Robbie Wolfe, known for his keen eye and passion for historical artifacts on American Pickers, found himself at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum with an eagerness to explore the new Simplex addition. However, his attention was instantly captivated by the 1931 Stinson Detroiter Junior-S prominently displayed in the ACDA Museum showroom. Originally a centerpiece in the museum's early days, the aircraft's polished body and streamlined design evoked a sense of nostalgia that Robbie couldn't resist. This 1931 Stinson Detroiter Junior-S was originally owned by the Auburn Automobile Company. Below is a photograph of the plane facing out towards the north showroom windows in the 1930s. The Stinson Junior Models were produced between 1929 and 1933. A total of 321 Juniors were built. These models were mainly purchased by wealthy private pilots and commercial enterprises.
