Meet Anthony Terling, Sports & Event Development Manager AKA our "Sports Guy" at Auburn-Opelika Tourism. A dedicated professional in the sports industry, Anthony graduated from Auburn University Montgomery in 2009 with an undergraduate degree in Sports Management and later earned his master’s in the same field. Before joining our team in 2018, he held significant roles including vice president of external affairs for the Alabama Sports Festival Foundation, and positions with the Tampa Bay Rays and their AA minor league affiliate.

Anthony is SafeSport Certified through the U.S. Center for SafeSport and brings a commitment to safety and integrity to all his endeavors. Outside of work, he enjoys spending quality time with his family. His passions include watching sports—especially Penguins hockey—attending Auburn University athletic events, enjoying outdoor recreation, and landscaping.

A firm believer in giving back, Anthony and his wife co-founded the Austin 1st Foundation, a non-profit named after their son, that raises awareness and research funding for rare diseases. His philanthropic spirit extends to his involvement with various organizations, including the Kiwanis Club of Opelika, Sports Events & Tourism Association Young Professionals, SPORTS ALABAMA, and Auburn & Opelika Young Professional Groups. He also serves on the boards for the Alabama Senior Olympics, Alabama Rare Disease Advisory Council, and the Achievement Center - Easterseals.

Anthony’s word of the year is "consistency." He explains, "Consistency is vital because it builds trust and reliability, essential for strong relationships both personally and professionally. Being consistent means delivering on promises and exceeding expectations, creating a sense of dependability. Daily consistency in actions and decisions encourages others to believe in and support the initiatives I’m involved with and helps me achieve long-term goals through steady, dedicated effort."

Meet Karen Gilmore, Service & Event Coordinator for Auburn-Opelika Tourism. Originally from the UK, Karen brings over 20 years of hospitality experience to our team. She graduated in 2007 from Leeds Metropolitan University in England with a degree in International Hospitality and Business Management.

Karen and her husband have called the Auburn-Opelika area home for nearly 13 years, where they are raising two energetic boys. Karen enjoys family day trips, savoring hot cups of coffee, and humorously admits to watching only the first 10 minutes of movies before falling asleep. Karen is also actively involved in the community as a member of Opelika Young Professionals, recently recognized in the Opelika 20 Under 40 program, has served as an Auburn Chamber of Commerce Diplomat, and participated in Junior League of Lee County, AL.

Karen's word of the year is "gratitude." She explains, "In the hustle of being a full-time working mom, actively practicing gratitude can sometimes get lost. I remind myself that gratitude is a verb—it must be acted upon with intention. I take moments to be grateful for both the big and small things, from our home's roof to a piece of really great sushi."

This perspective aligns perfectly with one of her favorite core values at AOT—Fostering Joy. "It's not the joy that makes us grateful; it's the gratitude that makes us joyful," Karen reflects, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between gratitude and joy, and her commitment to fostering both in her professional and personal life.

Meet Cat Bobo, Director of Communications & Marketing for Auburn-Opelika Tourism. A proud Auburn University alumna, Cat graduated in 2015 with a degree in Public Relations and has since become a vital part of our team.

Her dedication to the community is evident through her roles as a Diplomat for the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, a committee member for Auburn Young Professionals, and her service on the Board of Directors for Leadership Lee County, the Women's Business Council, and Lee County Young Leaders. In her free time, Cat can be found chasing around her toddlers, Blakely and Benjamin, working out at Twisted Cycle, enjoying good food, watching great movies, and traveling.

As a true Auburn local, Cat's love for the area shines through her work. She enjoys writing and has a particular passion for editing. Cat's balanced approach and positive outlook are invaluable to our team.

Cat's word of the year is "perspective." She explains, "I chose 'perspective' to remind myself of the wonderful and positive aspects of our work. It's easy to get caught up in overanalyzing campaigns or stressing over performance, but by keeping perspective, I can focus on what truly matters. This approach helps me make decisions more swiftly, prioritize effectively, and spread joy—one of our core values—especially when others need a similar reminder."
