We spent the night in lean-tos at Katahdin Stream Campground, and started our Katahdin morning on the Hunt Trail. This is the very last stretch of the Appalachian Trail, so from July until October, you’ll cross paths with thru hikers finishing up the AT.
The first mile and a half of Hunt will fool you into thinking Katahdin is a typical hike—there’s an actual trail, some elevation gain, a waterfall, some views.
Oh Katahdin, you tricky lady….

Katahdin 🤩🤯
Even after doing it a number of times, it takes a while to digest the experience.
It’s slightly reminiscent of childbirth — you can’t even imagine it until you’re in it…then while you’re in the middle of it, it seems too hard to ever complete…then, a little while later, the hard memories fade and you’re left with a really incredible feeling.
Here are a few views to get your imaginations going. We’ll break the hike down into sections with more specific pictures over the next week.
