I happy to announce we have our Valencia pnuts back!! We were having to boil the Virginia jumbo pnuts for a while since there was a shortage. The jumbos are good and some folks actually liked them better I think. But as a whole I think most enjoy these Valencia pnuts. Do you have an opinion? Thanks!

We found some gorgeous Jack-o-lantern mushrooms at Vogel State Park. They call them Jack-o-lantern because they are big and bright orange in color but also because they actually glow in the dark! I’m not kidding! The gills underneath have a slight glow at night. They have a bioluminescent enzyme which causes the gills to glow a faint blue-green color in the dark. How cool is that? 🎃🍄 @ Vogel State Park

"It may feel worlds away from civilization, but Fallingwater is less than 15 minutes from downtown Dahlonega (90 minutes north of Atlanta), known for its gold rush history and placement inside the Chattahoochee National Forest. When you’re not out kayaking, fishing, hiking, or biking, enjoy making s’mores in the custom fire pit." - Reader's Digest

We’ve got exciting news to share: Trailful is moving! Just down Main Street from our current little hiking shop sits this beautiful historic brick building near the Hiawassee town square. It had been vacant for years and in need of some serious TLC. So we’ve been working hard to spruce it up and give it a makeover while keeping its historic charm. We’re so excited to show you everything we’ve done, and can’t wait to invite you to check out our new space!

To make our move, we’ll be closing our Trailful shop on Monday, June 29, and will reopen in our new digs before the 4th of July weekend. We’ll be offering curbside service next week while we’re moving, so if you’re out on the Appalachian Trail and need to stop by for gear or resupply – or if you’ve had your eye on a new ENO hammock and can’t wait to hang out and chill – just give us a call at 706-521-HIKE and we’ll get you set up.

We’re so excited for the opportunity to revitalize this historic piece of Hiawassee history and vastly expand our selection of top hiking gear, apparel, books and outdoorsy gifts. And we can’t wait to show you what we've been working on!

The highest peak in Georgia is ready to be explored! 🙌

Brasstown Bald is currently open from Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm with limited amenities. The current parking lot capacity is 60 vehicles. If capacity is met, cars may be asked to wait until other cars leave to enter the site. 🚗

Additionally, there is no shuttle service to the top at the time. To reach the observation deck visitors will need to hike the Summit Trail. 🥾 While beautiful, the hike from the parking lot to the observation deck gains 428 feet in elevation in .6 miles! The Rangers recommend you wear comfortable footwear, attire, and bring plenty of water!😅

The forest taking back what’s hers. • This was a large tree that fell across a trail (most likely from a storm) and had to be sawed in half by man to make the trail passable again. Look at the forest growing over it as if to take it back again. A slow and natural process of decay.

DERELICT LUMPKIN • Anderson Land

This place has always intrigued me. I am told that this is the old Anderson homestead. Many of the family live on the land surrounding it. The land has been divided among Anderson family members along the way and some even sold off. Once, we were one of our evening walks and as we passed by we stopped at the fence to view it from a distance. An old woman stopped her car and hopped out to meet us. She had to have been over 90 years old. As we introduced ourselves she said “forgive me but I won’t remember you, my mind is not very sharp these days.” We asked her questions about the old house and she said that she lived there when she was in her teens when she married one of the sons of the family. There was no running water, plumbing or electricity. She could not recall what year it was built but said that it was old when she lived there some 75 years ago. She owns the land now with a few family members and lives just up the holler a ways.

I love old abandoned places and want to know their history. When I am there I think about the family that must have lived there, when the house was built and what life was like then. Did kids play in the yard, did they share crop with the house the next property over, did they all gather there on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas? And ultimately my mind gets to what happened for this place to be derelict and abandoned? Did they pass and no one else in the family want to live there? So many questions. I find so much beauty in these places and so much thought.

I share photos of “Derelict Lumpkin” because these places are fading and they are just too beautiful not to.

She cleans up nice! 🚲🌼

Jeb pulled my bike of the shed and cleaned it up, put air in the tires and greased all the squeaks. He called me outside to surprise me with the job he had done so we took her for a ride on our road today. He’s at a wonderful stage right now where he genuinely loves to fix things up. It’s fun to see the rewards of working with your hands and improving something. I’m so glad he is starting to see how valuable that is. @ Dahlonega, Georgia
