I always forget the rules! I have volunteered for compensation. Gotten me a many free flights. I can only do it if coming home as I am traveling for a reason in out bound flight!

✨ Have you ever been bumped from a flight? If so, you’re not alone. Here’s an essential travel tip for all air travelers flying within the United States. Stay informed and travel smart!✨

One of the most frustrating challenges air travelers face is involuntary denied boarding (DBD). This situation typically arises when airlines oversell flights, resulting in insufficient seating for all passengers.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has your back with rules that determine compensation based on how long you’re delayed and whether your flight is domestic or international. Let’s break it down!

Compensation Breakdown:

- No Compensation: If the airline gets you a replacement flight that lands within one hour of your original flight—no extra cash for you!

- 200% of Your Fare: If you arrive between one and two hours late. That’s double your ticket price coming your way!

- 400% of Your Fare: If you’re stuck waiting more than two hours, or if the airline leaves you hanging with no replacement. That’s a nice chunk of change!

Important Details to Remember:

- This compensation is known as "denied boarding compensation" (DBC) and is calculated based on your ticket price.
- Airlines must refund any unused extras you paid for.
- Before bumping anyone, airlines must ask for volunteers first.
- And they must clearly explain why you were denied boarding.

When You Won’t See Compensation:

- If you didn’t follow the airline's ticketing, check-in, or reconfirmation rules.
- If boarding was denied due to a flight cancellation.
- If safety-related weight restrictions are the culprit.
- If you were offered a different seat in the cabin at no extra charge.

Stay savvy and keep your travel game strong!

The article reminded me why I use inexpensive suitcase covers. They do protect my suitcase and are washable.

The second reason is it acts as a barrier to quick theft acts. Even carryon suitcases have been known to do a slash and grab in busy airports. A covered suitcase is not attractive.

When checked, a thief is going to target easy to get in and out without notice. A covered bag takes a few extra minutes and not worth it. Especially if during xray nothing valuable spotted!

Occasionally my suitcase has been targeted for inspection and they do just throw it back on and don't zip but still stays on suitcase!

I like I can throw in with wash. If I was really germ conscious, I could wash in hotel sink as drys quickly.
(It protects your zipper seams a bit in rain too)

We will check in luggage on way to Europe as my CC gives me a free checked bag even with basic economy. We will check in bags on way to Australia as Jim doesn't want the bother with transfer and 4 suitcases finding bin space.

It is rare luggage has items stolen out of it. Unless a long delay there is no time as baggage moves swiftly to next plane/loading. Long delays does offer opportunity. Sure there are probably thieves rings too.

She never says if her suitcase was locked or looked tampered with though TSA does have keys!

Valuable items should be in a carryon just like meds.

Alison Joyner of Atlanta discovered two of her designer purses, a blue Chanel bag and a Louis Vuitton clutch valued at $4,500, went missing after flying with Delta Airlines.

Our post popular post last year. What do you think?

I was just reading a post from TSA Precheck. They tell folks kids 12 and under traveling with you on your reservation are automatically cleared with you if you have TSA precheck. IF they are 13-17 they can only come with you IF are on your reservation - not a separate one - AND if airlines put TSA precheck on it. Airlines computers recognize precheck numbers but if none is listed, might not pop up on boarding pass. So when you check in (reason for doing it online when possible) and you don't see it, then time to make a call to airline reminding them of TSA Precheck rules.

Coming in internationally, they have to have own Global Entry # to go through GE in customs. They cannot go through yours even if on same reservation.

So a cold pj day...yes I "might scroll" around airplane humor!

When I travel basic economy, I research what I can bring and not bring. Will my CC give me free checked bag with Basic? (Yes on United)

Otherwise, will cost of carry on or check bag be the same as buying to economy? Read the fine print!

It may be Gucci but still has to go on floor underneath seat! Bring a pillowcase if paranoid about it touching the floor!

Most airlines show bag tracker on line. I like to check to make sure it got loaded! Or check your air tag!

Maybe just put in a new battery before trip....

Remember to go to lavatory 40 min before landing because mama was right " just try to go"!

Travel humor! Airlines can't control the weather. Might be blue skies for you but that connecting plane might be stuck in thunderstorms!

Gripe because plane turned back because of mechanical issue? Not me! I am celebrating they noticed in time!

Diverted because of unruly passenger? Not airlines fault a stupid person was on flight!

Cabin crew not that friendly but still doing their job? I don't know if first flight or last flight of day? I can still smile and say thank you!

I am amazed how FAA manages so many planes in air at same time? Or what nerves of steel it takes to be a traffic controller?

Travel is complex...order a side dish of patience, kindness and tolerance before each trip!

spoiler alert: weather delays happen at every airline 🤯

I have a soft spot for flight Attendents and people following their dream in the traveling world

“I was born in a country named Syria and I dreamt of being a flight attendant since I was a little girl seeing on TV the brilliant cabin crew, wearing their amazing uniforms and travelling all around the world. When I completed college, finally being able to fulfil my dream and chase the sky, the war in Syria said no to me. I’ve tried so many times to find a chance in my country but unfortunately I couldn’t because of the war, the sanctions over my country, and the pandemic as well. My nationality prevented me from working with other country’s airlines as well because it was so hard to get any visa!

I was about to give up when I got an email from a small Iraqi airline in Baghdad, asking me to attend an interview for the cabin crew position. I was chosen to travel to Iraq and work there, which was the most precious moment of my life. I started my career with a full passion, discovering the truth that it’s really not about wearing the skirts and the high-heeled shoes or even travelling around the world, but rather it’s about being responsible, alert, wise and well-trained.

Three years of experience made me realise how great my career is and how difficult it is to be an immigrant living alone and working in aviation as well! The hardest moment of those years was when I had an emergency landing but the funniest was when I changed from that company to another amazing one. The best part of it all was the people, I’ve learned so much from my passengers, felt new feelings I’ve never felt before, and been exploring different cultures.

The dream didn’t stop there, but instead I’m willing to create a platform to motivate people and teach them the basics of this industry. Never say never, keep dreaming, and keep working at it ‘til you get the chance. The wings are ready - wear them and FLY!”

This airline take unruly passenger to court for disruption on flight.

I know FAA has fined passengers. But where does that money go? Thinking should go to airline as they are paying a price for delays or landing somewhere else.

It's getting better as folks see the consequences?

Some interesting pointers! One thing I did not know, SW, United and American (probably all) just changed the sit down rule for Flight Attendents is now 30 minutes before landing. This means passengers need to stay seated. So maybe 40-45 minutes before end of flight use lavatory! Especially if you know there could be a wait getting out if plane or waiting in customs!
Because you will get yelled at if you try last minute! Thinking if phone is on - set the alarm on vibratory - to remind you?

Here are 5 travel hacks for those tiny airplane seat pockets.Have you noticed in 2025 that the pockets on the back of airplane seats have gotten much smaller...

Traveling with a minor and not their parent? Always write up a letter of consent and have parents notarized appointing you guardian. Even domestic TSA can ask for it.

International travel? Be sure to research what forms are needed for each visa (varies by country) and make sure you have an easy location for pulling out at customs etc.

Found this on Australia Goverment site (took some searching). I will have parents sign & notarized and return to me when boys visit for spring break with passports. Then Jim and I can sign and notarize.

I will also type up one with trip details and have notarized. There are places that advertise "free-travel Consent forms" then at end they show what it costs for them to complete!

I just use it to gage what to include. I would rather have too much information than not enough!

I have only been asked twice with The Boys. Once Border Guards going into Canada - showed letter and they still asked boys questions.

When we took them to Spain, the check in attendant asked for it before issuing boarding pass. Nobody in Europe asked! But that is changing fast as new Visas are being required. Countries trying to Crack down on trafficking.

So today is the day I fill out and write my own!

Below is Australia form.
