Calling all birders! Happy National Bird Day tomorrow on 5/4. Did you know that Texas ranks 2nd on the national bird list? As an in, we have almost 650 bird species that reside in our vast Texan habitat. Some of our lovely state parks attract fantastic bird watching. Brazosbend State Park Lost Maples State Natural Area - Texas Parks and Wildlife Garner State Park Big Bend National Park (not a state park, clearly but we’re including it here) & Sea Rim State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife all attract a wide variety of bird species, including this painted bunting, pictured here. National Park Week is just around the corner! What's National Park Week? It's like a week for national parks.
Yes, this is happening. Now that we have that out of the way, runs from April 20 to April 28. Entrance fees will be waived on Saturday, April 20, to kick off the celebration and encourage everyone to enjoy their national parks in person. (You don't all have to go to Yellowstone. We love you Yellowstone.) With over 400 national park areas, there are parks closer than you think.

We take swimming seriously here in Texas & thankfully we have our selection of cooling waters to quench the heat of our stubborn summers. Here’s a list of some of our favorite places to swim in the Texas Hill Country! Let us know if we missed one of your favorites! 1) Krause Springs (Spicewood TX) It’s a magical escape, complete with a swimming hole, multiple waterfalls, & a spring fed pool. 2) Barton Springs (Austin TX) A spring fed pool in the heart of Austin. It’s a cool, reliable 68 degrees all year long. 3) Landa Park at Comal Springs (New Braunfels TX) Float the Comal & maybe try out the tube chute! 4) Canyon Lake (Canyon Lake TX) Swim at the dam that borders the Guadalupe River or check out Comal Park. Either way, you’ll be blown away by the clear blue waters on this lake. 5) Blue Hole (Wimberley TX) Located in Blue Hole Regional Park, this swimming hole fed by Cypress Creek has blue waters like its name & is surrounded by lush flora. 6) Ingram Dam (Ingram TX) This short dam with a 45 degree incline makes a perfect slide into the Guadalupe River.
