Spring is the perfect time for birding in Texas! Gather a few friends and form a team to participate in this year's Great Texas Birding Classic. Beginners and experts welcome - there's a tournament category for everyone!

Birding Classic registration is now open! Gather your friends, colleagues, or just your best birding pals and put together a team for the 29th Annual Birding Classic. You can bird anywhere in the state, for a half day, full day, or even all week! Funds raised support birds and birding here in Texas, so you'll be supporting a great cause.

Congratulations to the 5 new Bird City Texas-certified communities, as well as the first High Flyer! Did you know that Texas now has 15 cities that have been certified in this prestigious program? Each of these communities is putting actions in place in three key categories: community engagement, habitat enhancement and creating safer spaces for birds.

It was an honor to attend yesterday’s ribbon cutting for the new Joan & Scott Holt Paradise Pond expansion. The pond is looking wonderful and the new native landscaping is already attracting great birds. Next time you’re in the Coastal Bend, be sure to check it out! Did you know that all state parks are sites along the Great Texas Wildlife Trails? And they offer awesome programs year-round, such as this sounds of the night presentation at Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway - Texas Parks and Wildlife (site PPWW 112 on the Prairies and Pineywoods West Wildlife Trail: https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wildlife/wildlife-trails/ppww/palo-pinto-loop).

🦉🐺🦫Nature is full of strange sounds...when you stop to listen.
Some are downright unsettling until you know what they are.

Join Park Interpreter David Owens for a little game of WHAT'S THAT SOUND and learn about the language of nature here in the park.

It’s hot out there, making going to see a bat flight at dusk a great summer viewing opportunity! Last night’s emergence at site HOTW 080: Old Tunnel State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife was perfect. We had a gorgeous Hill Country sunset, cooler weather, and about 3 million Mexican free-tailed bats making the night spectacular.
