As we get close to in season just some helpful points for the season for guests to the island:
🦀 Please make sure you turn off all exterior and interior lights when not in use. They attract unwanted bugs, create light pollution of the great OBX night skies, and can cause newly hatched sea turtles to travel in wrong direction.
🐟 Kindly place garbage cans out night before your scheduled pick up day. In Avon pick up is Tuesday and Friday so please place out Monday and Thursday nights. Bag all trash to prevent flies (then maggots) in the cans. Pick ups vary by village on HI. Place cans at least two feet apart as a boom truck picks up. Pick up usually occurs very early as in around 1 or 2 AM.
🌴 Please keep windows and doors closed while AC is running. Prolonged running will cause units to ice up and work less efficiently. Further, it prevents bugs, frogs and lizards from entering home.
🌞 When it's hot and sunny Please close all east and south shades or curtains when not in use. This will allow AC units to function properly. Remember when heat index hits triple didgets all AC units are stressed.
🐢 Please stay off dunes as they protect the homes plus they are full of cactus, thorney vines, and island wildlife you'd rather not meet on vacation.
⛱️ Kindly fill in all holes when leaving. For safety of our two and four legged friends on the island.
🎆 Fireworks are not permitted. Fireworks, wind, and wooden home are not a good combination. Please no fireworks for everyone's safety.
⛱️ Kindly pack in and pack out each day. Please do not leave beach equipment or trash on beach. The park service will tag then remove left beach equipment each day.
The OBX is a special place. Enjoy your stay and kindly respect the place we all love. It will make your and everyone's stay one you can talk about till you return again! Stay salty all!
