Hey ya'll! We have updated our calendar (and our photos!) for 2024. Quick summary:

Located on Bald Head Island - accessible only by ferry from Southport, NC. No cars on the island!
We have 3 golf carts (Two 6 seaters and a 4 seater) and many bikes for your use.
We are in the center of the island, just minutes from harbor, beaches, market, shopping, hiking trails. New shops and restaurants on the island!
House is 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom - sleeps 10 comfortably
We rent only to friends, family, and friends of friends, so the house is well stocked as we know you'll good care of things!

Hi Friends! Many of you are starting to make vacation plans for 2022 and we'd love to host you at our house on Bald Head Island! No cars, just golf carts (we have a 4 seater and a 6 seater). Our house is 4 bedrooms, 3 bath. We have a front porch and have added a new side deck with outdoor table and chairs! The very best thing about BHI (besides the serenity, nature trails, calmness) is that there are beaches that face all directions. Watch the sunrise, the sunset, surf, go shelling, tide pools, no tide pools. You can get it all and never leave the island! I've included some pics of the house and a picture of our rental rates. We have exciting news! Raven's Retreat now has new co-owners. The Holloways and the Aliceas now own the house together and we have changed the name to Hang Ten! 🤙There are 10 of us and surfing on BHI is incredibly fun, so it's very fitting! We are working on a few updates/improvements to the house and will update our video once complete.

We will still be renting the house out some but only to our friends. If you are reading this, you are probably our friend and would qualify 😉. We will try to keep the calendar updated (listed as the "website" on this page) as we know of dates. Right now Summer 2021 shows full but once we figure out our own plans, some dates will open up. I'm not gonna lie, it was nice having a place to stay at the beach for part of the quarantine. Ok, REALLY nice. But Bald Head Island is now OPEN for renters as of today so now YOU can enjoy too!

We have June 9-12 available and looks like we just got a cancellation for June 19-26 so that's available too! Dates in August also available and even Labor Day weekend.

We checked off many maintenance items during our stays there so the house is in top shape. The neighborhood pool is open and the BHI Club is also open! And of course, the beaches are open (they actually never closed).

Need to practice social distancing? Bald Head is the place to be! WIDE open beaches, plenty of fresh air and outdoor activities. Our house is AVAILABLE currently through March 27, but act fast. Dates are booking quickly on the island.

If you are traveling to our North Carolina haven for the first time or you’re a seasoned visitor, here are some of our favorite things to do that you can add to your bucket list this year.

We have a House membership to the Bald Head Island Club. For an optional fee, you too can enjoy the club! Although this level does not include tennis or golf, it does include dining options and the pools! They have a 25m lap pool, a zero-entry rec pool, a kiddie pool with sprayers and slides, a separate pool with 2 large water slides, and a splash pad (also a pool-side bar, snack bar, and so many lounge chairs and umbrellas)! Essentially it’s a fancy water park right here on the island.

In addition to the snack bar and pool side bar, there are 4 restaurants from casual to upscale. There are also activities and events going on all the time, many of them for free. You can even register for summer camps through the club! For more info see www.bhiclub.net

Quick 24 hours in BHI. Painted and redecorated the upstairs bathroom (no more pink!!) and installed some Nest smoke/carbon monoxide detectors (which is supposed to alert me when batteries are getting low so maybe (maybe 🤞) no middle of the night chirping! Also a new rug in the living room and the upstairs bedroom. I’m beat! Happy Sandpiper Coffee and Ice Cream is open while I wait for the ferry on this sunny but windy day.

Hard to go anywhere on this island and not see some wildlife. Our last visit we saw many deer, a fox, an alligator, a coyote, dolphins, crabs, and lots of frogs. If you visit in July, August, and September you are very likely to see some baby sea turtles 🐢! Last year was a record sea turtle year at BHI with 170 nests (each with about 100 eggs). Wow!

The Chapel on Bald Head Island is absolutely breathtaking and the views of the marsh while sitting in a pew are incredible. Services are held every Sunday with a different visiting minister each week. It’s definitely worth a visit! If you can’t make a Sunday morning, the chapel is usually open most days so go look around and take some pics 😀

During our most recent trip at Thanksgiving, the adults in our group did the Bald Head Island historical tour. Highly highly recommend!! Lasted about 2.5 hours and includes admission to Old Baldy, the oldest standing lighthouse in NC, and the accompanying museum. During the tour, we carted all over the island learning about pirates, River Pilots, BHI during the Revolutionary war and the Civil War, the history of the lighthouses (there used to be 2!), the light keepers and more!

Captain Charlie was the lighthouse keeper from 1903 to 1933. His cottage and those of his 2 assistants still stand today and can even be rented out. During Hurricane Dorian, beach erosion caused some pilings to appear near these houses which they think used to be a privy (bathroom) where they used the tides to wash out what was “dropped”. Bricks have been sent off for date testing so we have to wait to find out if that’s true and how old those pilings are. So much interesting history on this little barrier island!
