The best part of my meeting yesterday was the hug that I received after showing Daniel Smart Manufacturing Inc how our Remanufactured toners work in their HP printers.
They were so excited to have found a local, woman-owned company as their new supplier.

Always glad to meet with businesses that are looking to save money and buy quality toner products.

If we could get just one State or City agency to purchase Remanufactured (domestically made) toner for one of their printers, it would be a start. Hint--especially those with the word Environment in their names.

Cities and states around the country have green goals and huge buying power, but old procurement practices die hard.

We continue to highlight in . We wanted to learn more from April Gottsagen, an amazing regarding her business, April Toner, and this is what we learned….



I have owned April Toner, LLC for almost 12 years, since December 2011.

I worked for a small company in the same industry, and when they could "no longer sustain the operation", I decided to go out on my own. Because they were a small company, I knew many aspects of the business even though I was only involved in sales. I took what I knew, and the rapport that I had with my customers there, and turned it into my own company.

I love being able to make decisions that directly affect my customers. I always have them in mind when doing everything. Also, I can work the hours where I am most focused, and can get the most done. I choose which networking events to go to, and I set my own quotas.

I like to deliver the product in-person for at least the first order. That way, customers know who I am and can meet me. It's more personal. prI think people like knowing who is behind the emails, phone conversations, and LinkedIn profile. And I like meeting and getting to know my customers. I try to support them whenever possible by purchasing their products and services as well.

Ninestar new build compatible toner has been banned from the US. This is one of the many overseas brands sold on Amazon. Make sure you know what country of origin you are buying from and what their stance is on human rights.

The U.S. on Friday banned imports from China-based printer maker Ninestar Corp and a Chinese chemical company over alleged human rights abuses.

HP's "Dynamic Security" upsets customers and creates class action suits--
Make sure to manually turn off automatic firmware updates on your HP printers--unless you want HP to remotely block not only all remanufactured and compatible ink and toner cartridges, but now HP brand expired cartridges.
We used to say that HP printers are like Honda's. Now we say that Brother printers are like Toyota's.

1 bag of coffee = 2 small businesses

A few months ago, I was reminded of how important it is for small businesses to work together and support each other.

On that Saturday morning, I bought a pound of coffee from the Zeke's Coffee - Baltimore tent at the Fell's Point Farmers Market.

When I walked away and looked at the bag of coffee, I saw the inks and maintenance boxes, the blank labels, and the inkjet label printer that make up the printed label.

I thought about how many people see these labels everyday and don’t really think about the small businesses that are behind the creation of them.
