Crossing this bridge to Maine means we’re home!

On this date in 1972, the most welcome sight to homesick Mainers was opened.

Built as part of a bypass to the Portsmouth traffic circle, the Piscataqua River Bridge is part of an extension to I-95. Featuring 6 lanes, the 4500-foot span bridge becomes very popular.

The first time the public got their eyes on the project was in 1967, when a drawing was posted in the newspaper. Shortly after completion, it won two awards: the award of merit from the American Institute of Steel Construction in 1973, and the “country's outstanding bridge” award from the US Department of Transportation later in 1974.

The City of Brewer invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of "Cool Tones on the Riverwalk," an interactive music park offering a hands-on experience with professional outdoor instruments by Percussion Play, nestled along the scenic Brewer Riverwalk. The opening event, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks by Mayor Jenn Morin and Doug Farnum, owner of Getchell Brothers Ice, will be held on Thursday, October 31, at 2:30 p.m. Thanks to a generous donation from Getchell Brothers, this unique addition to Brewer is now ready for the public to enjoy.
Located on the historic former Getchell Ice property, "Cool Tones on the Riverwalk" sits at the northern end of the trail, between the Penobscot Street trailhead parking lot and the tunnel under the Chamberlain Bridge. Getchell Brothers, founded in 1888 when South Brewer was a hub for ice harvested on the Penobscot River and shipped across the East Coast, has been a vital part of Brewer’s history for over a century. The City of Brewer is proud to honor this legacy through this new park, made possible by the support of Getchell Brothers.
This vibrant, interactive music park is designed for spontaneous creativity, with a variety of instruments—including tubular bells, a xylophone, and babel drums—that invite everyone, from young children to experienced musicians, to play and connect with the river’s natural beauty. "Cool Tones on the Riverwalk" is more than just a park; it’s a celebration of art, nature, and community along the Penobscot River.
As a unique destination on the Brewer Riverwalk, "Cool Tones on the Riverwalk" aims to be a gathering place for creativity and connection, offering instruments suited for every age and skill level.

Welcome to Bangor!

Bangor is the third-largest city in the state and the retail, cultural, and service center for central, eastern and northern Maine, as well as Atlantic Canada.

Bangor is 90 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, Maine’s historic Mid-Coast town of Camden, and Baxter State Park, home to Mt. Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak. Many more small, quaint and historic towns, such as Greenville situated along Moosehead Lake, are just a day trip away and make Bangor the perfect starting point for the area’s recreational, cultural and relaxation opportunities.

The architecture you will see when visiting Bangor’s historic Downtown tells takes of Bangor’s gilded age. Our many brick buildings are a tribute to the tenacious spirit of the citizens following the Great Fire of 1911. Our historic districts will provide you a glimpse into the Queen City’s past. Music, theatre, outdoor adventure and more await you in Bangor!
