We have snow!!! For those that don’t like to ski there is another hidden gem to experience in Jackson which is just 10 minutes away. Nestlenook Farm has sleigh rides through the woods. It’s absolutely beautiful and a wonderful way to experience the holiday season in the White Mountains.

This first photo was posted by WMUR. The Atlantic Ocean was spotted from the summit of Mount Washington on Monday thanks to the clear sky. The other photos were taken today from the Mount Washington Observatory. Forget fall. Winter has arrived in parts of NH!

Some new updates have been made to the cabin. Fall has arrived! And even though the leaves have not really started to turn it’s still beautiful up there. We now have a gas fire pit on the deck to enjoy those cool fall nights. The garden has also been updated with fall items. Foliage season is just around the corner and there are still days available in October.

I can’t take credit for either of these photos but both supposedly were taken last weekend. The bear was at the Mount Washington Hotel and the moose were walking along the highway at the edge of the White National Forest.

Why spring skiing is the best!!!

1. Sunny days! Spring usually means warming temperatures and sunny skies

2. Corn, practically the holy grail of skiing. Corn snow is powder's elusive counterpart, which makes skiing it all the sweeter. Corn forms during consistent melt-freeze cycles in the late spring, and can persist from late March at lower elevations until July up in the alpine.

3. Longer days= more skiing. In early April, there are almost 3.5 more hours of daylight than in December. What does this mean? Many resorts regularly shut at 3:30 pm in the winter, but in the spring sometimes stay open until as late as 5 pm.

4. Coverages. In late March and April, before the snow begins to significantly melt, most ski resorts boast their biggest snowpacks of the season so far. More snow coverage means fewer core shots in the skis and more chutes opened up.

5. Skiing in T-shirts! There’s nothing like skiing corn in a t-shirt (or shirtless)

It’s been a little while since we’ve posted. Last weekend was the first weekend we’ve been back up north since Thanksgiving. We were greeted with over three feet of snow. After shoveling it was a great night for movies and a fire. And the next day skiing was fantastic.

Stay in and keep warm on Saturday!

The snow has arrived and there is plenty of it in the mountains.

In this picture, the peaks of Mt. Adams and Mt. Madison can be seen in the northern Presidential Range, just adjacent to Mt. Washington. The villages of Bretton Woods and Twin Mountain lie unseen in the valleys below.
