As Rafiki said in the Lion King, "It is Time"

This image represents the 12z ECMWF Ensemble Prediction System (EPS), which aligns with the trend I’ve been closely monitoring and discussing over the past month and a half. What we’re observing here is a clear indication of what I refer to as the "building snowpack." This term encapsulates the gradual and sustained development of a snowpack across the region, driven by a series of atmospheric conditions that favor repeated snowfall events.

The model data suggests a progressively favorable pattern for snow accumulation, with the potential for continued growth of the snowpack as the winter season advances. This concept of a "building snowpack" is not just about isolated snowstorms, but rather the cumulative effect of consistent snowfall episodes over an extended period. As we approach the heart of the winter season, these trends are particularly noteworthy, as they have implications for both short-term snow cover and the longer-term stability and depth of the snowpack, which can affect hydrological conditions, avalanche risks, and other environmental factors.

The majority may be reluctant to accept this outlook due to a few recent winters that failed to meet expectations. There is often a tendency for people to support weather models when they predict milder conditions, as these forecasts align with personal preferences. Over the past several years, I have observed that this skepticism is particularly prevalent in regions that are not typically considered major snow zones. In these areas, there is a common mindset of, "It didn’t happen last year, or the year before, so it’s unlikely to happen this year." This perspective tends to overlook the inherent variability in weather patterns and the fact that seasonal conditions can, and often do, differ from year to year. It’s important to recognize that long-term weather forecasts should be based on broader patterns and historical data, rather than the immediate past, to better understand the potential for significant snow events.

Anyone else getting excited for snow?

Long Range Guidance is building the snow pack in a way we've not seen in some time, at least the last several winters. If this keeps up it could have big implications for the winter going forward.....Let It finally snow.
