Our guests were in absolute awe of Classic Europe on our “Christmas on the Danube” tour. The incredible Christmas markets, medieval castles, grand palaces, and so many amazing cathedrals in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. Thanks to everyone who joined us, and especially to our wonderful Collette Tour Manager Bojana Lopac!

Iceland, the tiny island nation that sits atop the tectonic plates separating North America and Europe in the North Atlantic Ocean, is known as “The Land of Fire and Ice,” as well as for its “Magical Northern Lights.”
Nearly 30 members of First Community Bank’s Travel Club were treated to all that and more during an incredible nine-day adventure. We hope you enjoy the travelogue that follows.

The Travel Club recently enjoyed an extremely unique tour across five states — “A Culinary Journey through New England” — coordinated by Mayflower Cruises & Tours.
After flying into Boston, we were charmed by Ogunquit, Maine, and engaged by a lobster pulling cruise; then had lunch on the harbor at Portland, followed by a scenic drive along the coast at Kennebunkport.
We spent the night at an oceanfront hotel that allowed us to enjoy breakfast at sunrise on the Atlantic.
Our travelers took pictures at the historic Nubble Lighthouse before our tour bus cut across New Hampshire to wind through the Green Mountains of Vermont. We visited Quechee Gorge Village before helping churn butter during an informative tour at Billings Farm.
Lake Morey Resort in the Vermont hills was our home base as we learned about “maple sugaring” at Morse Sugar Farm and apple cider production at Cold Hollow Cider Mill, and topped off the day with a delicious stop at Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory near Montpelier.
Massachusetts greeted us with shopping at the Yankee Candle Factory and a trip back in time at historic Sturbridge Village.
We settled into an incredibly nice hotel across the bay from picturesque Newport, Rhode Island, for more touring and shopping.
A driving tour provided an engaging education about the history of Newport and we were overwhelmed by all of the amazing estates we saw that were built by the enormously wealthy families of America’s Gilded Age — including The Breakers, which the Vanderbilts called their “summer cottage.”
Then it was on to a nearby oyster farm, lunch to sample their catch, and a tasty visit to a local winery.
First Community Bank thanks everyone who participated in this informative and entertaining tour of New England.

The Travel Club’s “Canyon Country” tour of the American Southwest was an amazing journey through the natural beauty of Arizona, Utah and Nevada! The 9-day adventure exposed us to the stunning sandstone formations of Sedona, a surprising “two season” visit to the legendary Grand Canyon, a rafting adventure at Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River, the unique hoodoos (and snow squalls!) of Bryce Canyon National Park, the colorful stone walls of Zion National Park, and a mesmerizing conclusion with the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip. WOW!

Two notable sites in southwest Arkansas were the destination for the Travel Club tour in November 2023. One highlight was Crater of Diamonds State Park at Murfreesboro, which is the world’s only diamond-bearing site open to the public. Our guests also toured the “museum village” of Historic Washington, an important pioneer settlement along the Southwest Trail.

Two dozen members of the Travel Club recently enjoyed a weeklong visit to the proverbial “Belles of the South”: Charleston, SC, and Savannah and Jekyll, Island, GA.

We encountered true southern hospitality as we explored coastal islands, historic plantations and beautiful cities steeped in Southern tradition and Spanish moss (which we learned is actually not Spanish nor is it moss!).

We experienced the charm of Charleston and Boone Hall Plantation, and stopped in the gorgeous city of Beaufort on our way to Georgia’s Golden Isles and the famous Jekyll Island Club where we partied as once did the Rockefellers and Vanderbilts.

Savannah was a jewel in the tour’s crown as we explored its historic district, stately mansions and amazing squares — and learned why General Sherman said the city was much to beautiful to burn during the Civil War.

We are so pleased that we completed our incredible Travel Club tour of Greece just before raging wildfires, unbearably hot temps and now unavoidable limits on the crush of tourists.

Greece is trying to curb overcrowding and prevent damage at its most popular archaeological site. Other European destinations are also cracking down.
