“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
– Martin Luther King Jr.

Pictured is a Civil Rights protest outside Louisiana's Old State Capitol in December 1961, extending toward the Louisiana Art & Science Museum visible in the background. The demonstration was held in response to the arrests of students who protested segregated local businesses.

Nearly a decade earlier, Baton Rouge became a catalyst for change with the 1953 Bus Boycott—an event that inspired the Montgomery Bus Boycott and marked a pivotal moment in the fight for racial equality.

Let our local history remind us of the enduring power of community, courage, and the pursuit of equality. ✊🏾
