β A little more than 1/3 of the content subcategories are directly aligned to the Algebra I TEKS.
β Another 1/3 are tied to prerequisites for those Algebra I TEKS - the more basic, Pre-Algebra type math skills
β And only a little less than 1/3 are tied to Geometry.

Every single TSIA2 content subcategory ties in to an English I and an English II standard. Lots ofoverlap here.

Thereβs also a lot of overlap in terms of the items.
The English I, English II, Algebra I STAAR end-of-course items will be a slightly earlier or slightly less rigorous cousin to the TSIA2 item - in many cases, you canβt tell the difference.
π Can you tell the difference in the short video below? π

What are the characteristics of successful high dosage tutoring programs?
Not all high dosage tutoring is equal. As a matter of fact, there are some common denominators of high dosage tutoring that should be present for the program to even qualify as an HDT program.
Craig Gehring discusses this strategy and leads to a useful rubric that can be used by school district administrators.
The rubric is located on the blog post below, and it's structured to provide clear, objective criteria for assessing each of the ten features of high dosage tutoring. By using this rubric, you can identify strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring that your tutoring programs are as effective as possible in helping students recover and excel post-pandemic.

Did you know that in 2022, the average SAT score was 1,050 (looking at 1.7 million students who took the test)? This was the lowest average score since the test last changed its format back in 2016.
Reading and Writing are the most important areas, and represent the biggest changes from a content perspective. It's critical for students to understand these changes and come out of the gates strong to succeed on the digital SAT and its adaptive format.
Craig Gehring briefly discusses some important changes on a recent episode of Prep Talks that leads to a bigger breakdown on our blog.

District and school accountability is a persistent hot topic in education and we recently discussed the state of Texas on Prep Talks.
Most importantly, the primary accountability mechanism for high schools in Texas is the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) - and that assessment was recently redesigned - meaning preparation for it changes.
Increasing STAAR scores has proven a persistent challenge for Texas schools and districts. While students are recovering from their lows at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, scores remain below pre-pandemic levels in some areas and show that many students continue to lag behind core subject areas.
In 2023β¦
π 54% of Texas high school students scored βmeets grade levelβ or higher in English I
π 45% scored βmeetsβ or higher in Algebra I
π 57% scored βmeetsβ or higher in Biology
β¬οΈ These averages are further depressed among economically disadvantaged students.
The need to improve student outcomes and school accountability ratings in Texas is clear β but administrators and educators face significant obstacles in getting there. For many teachers, fitting in STAAR prep is a challenge, particularly when their classes include students at different ability levels and with varying support needs.
Meanwhile, many students and teachers report that the emphasis on STAAR creates unnecessary pressure in schools β and recent polls have shown teachers agreed that preparing for STAAR makes it harder to teach effectively.
So what do you do to start addressing the issue in a realistic way?
MasteryPrep Founder and CEO, Craig Gehring, speaks about an equitable, mastery-based approach to tackle this important area.
βοΈ Equip our teachers with ready-to-use material that can be plugged into existing Academic Learning Time
βοΈ Leverage data at the student level to surface the most urgent, non-negotiable skills they need to master to succeed on the required assessment
βοΈ Be tact

The Digital SAT comes with significant changes to content and time limits, meaning students and teachers must prepare very differently.
A quick roadmap to success includes:
1. Look at the digital SAT as an opportunity to use a differentiated test to hit CCMR criteria that ladderrs up to accountability metrics
2. Get familiar with the format changes (both teachers and students)
3. Have teachers take relevant sections of the test during professional development
4. Validate infrastructure to support test day (devices, tech, etc.)
______
The digital SATβs format and content changes mean test prep strategies must also change. Focusing on classroom curricula isnβt enough β students need tactical test-taking skills to apply that knowledge effectively on test day.
The most significant change appears in the Reading and Writing section. The long, traditional passages have been eliminated. Short passages are drawn from classic literature, so ensuring students are comfortable reading older texts is important.
Some question types have also been removed: citing textual evidence, conciseness, logical sequence, and syntax. Theyβve been replaced with three new types:
π Complete the idea
π Illustrating claims
π Writerβs goal
For the Math section, the digital SAT no longer includes βcomplex numbers,β such as the square root of -1. It has also significantly reduced the number of complicated word problems, instead favoring shorter and more direct questions. Finally, the test features fewer questions about complex shapes like cylinders, spheres, and cones and more about circles, area, triangles, and geometry.
Oh...and...the test format is now adaptive and time limits have changed.
The SAT covers a wide array of topics and skills β it isnβt possible to prepare students for every possible question. Instead, educators should focus on the areas that are most commonly covered by the SAT and are, therefore, the most likely to influence scores.
