With coronavirus cases still in flux across the globe, a number of factors make the safety and management of travel a risky business for small travel companies like Blue Feather Adventures.

• What are the restrictions in the destination country?
• How likely are they to change prior to travel?
• Can we pivot quickly enough to accommodate those changes?
• What if a traveler tests positive upon our departure?

While we may never have the answers to every question and possible scenario, for now we’re choosing to remain on hold and continue to look ahead in the hopes that safe, comfortable travel will be back on our calendars!

Michigan’s winter wonderland found our group of daring ladies on the shores of Lake Superior in the tiny town of Grand Marais. Our wintery itinerary had us snowshoeing, hiking (ice cleats required!), and xc skiing! Evenings were made for card playing, dice rolling, reading, conversation, and cozy lounging. Find your adventure on Michigan’s snow-blanketed trails, pristine forests, and stunning shorelines!

There’s still time for a Fall getaway! In Ludington MI, you’ll find miles of sandy beaches, wild clouds, and two lighthouses! We love harbor towns and Ludington is one of the best, located on Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Pere Marquette River.

Want to wander a bit farther? Ludington is the home port of the largest carferry to sail the Great Lakes! The S.S. Badger crosses Lake Michigan to Manitowoc, Wisconsin every May to October.

The summer boom of seasonal residents, day trippers, and bird watchers on Monhegan Island is winding down. Here's your chance to get to know this wonderous natural playground in the quieter weeks of Fall! Only a square mile in total, Monhegan Island is located 10 miles off the nearest mainland.

From the working lobster dock at Port Clyde, find your way to Monhegan Boat Line to ferry to this artist enclave. Spend the afternoon hiking the highest wind-scoured cliffs along the coast! Then head to Monhegan Brewery where it's all about relaxing and cold beverages.

Hang tight…well get there! Sadly, though, it won’t be this Fall. Like you, we were so excited to travel the world again. But with Covid variant cases on the rise, we’re playing it safe. Our Fall 2021 Ireland travel is being rebooked for 2022. Looking forward (again!).

Note - If you are considering traveling on your own, we'd be happy to help you plan your itinerary, share tips for an authentic experience, and put you in contact with in-country folks.

Mike and Cathy are heading East this Fall to celebrate Cathy’s retirement. And we’re joining the adventure! Well, not for real but from the office armchair as we plan their route. Kayaking, hiking (not too strenuous), camping (RV accommodating), wineries (of course!), Acadia National Park, seafood (where's the lobster!), and anything along the coast of Maine. Happy retirement, Cathy!

Got a get-away? Give us a jingle. We’d be happy to help you put together an itinerary!

Mount Desert Island offers so much more than the Loop Road of Acadia National Park and the crowds of Bar Harbor. Schooner Head Path and Compass Harbor trails are quiet and uncrowded and just a short drive from Bar Harbor.

Because I’ve hiked Schooner Head in the past, this afternoon I choose Compass Harbor. The mild, rolling wooded trail runs adjacent to the foundation of an old farm with remains of gardens and apple trees. You can find remnants of a saltwater pool and stone steps leading to the ocean. But the best part is when the path spills out onto Hull’s Cove!

Our Downeast Maine adventure was such a treat! As I made my way from York to Eastport, I gathered a few lighthouses for the photo album! Some are easily accessible, just park and enjoy the view. Others are a bit more strenuous...hiking cliffs, forest trails, and steep stairways. But no matter the effort, all are treasures.

Nubble Lighthouse, Cape Neddick
Marshall Point Lighthouse, Port Clyde
Dyce Lighthouse, Castine
West Quoddy Head Light, Lubec

Happy Summer dear trailblazers! We're back in the office on this beautiful day! Our adventuring took us Downeast Maine with stops in MA and NH to call on old friends.

And here’s what we found along the way >> Most travelers were dedicated to reconnecting after our shared pandemic separations. Their sites were set on spending valued time with families in hometowns and lake houses. They were catching up with local friends and those across the miles.

How exciting that our world is opening! How nice to find that family and friends are first on the itinerary. We’ve plenty to share as soon as we unpack!

Today a curious traveler asked “Just how adventurous are your hiking excursions?” All trips include a fair amount of walking—after all, how do you get up close and real?

Some involve a bit of hiking but the level and distance are up to you. Choose to walk a short distance on the trail to get an eyeful of stunning scenery and plenty of photos. Or maybe you’d rather head up the incline to the first rock ledge to catch some sun and take in a few chapters of your book. Perhaps you buddy up to trek a bit farther for an ‘omg, how is this real’ vista. No special skills are required, just a sense of wonder and a sturdy pair of shoes!

This is Tim. Tim likes sardines. They make him happy. Want to be happy like Tim? Then travel along to the Kerbriant Sardine Cannery with us!

We’ll have a grand time with the LeGal family who process their own sustainable products, from the backroom cannery to the shelf. We’re visiting the cannery in 2022 (Tim will be with us again!) We do hope you’ll join us!

Daydreaming of international travel? Remember to add a valid passport to your dreamscape! While it’s never too early to apply for or to renew an existing passport, if you wait too long it may be too late. It’s easy to apply from home so that when you’re ready to say ‘I’m outta here’, you won’t be in a last minute scramble.

Time to pack the lobster leggings! Leaving soon to scout out new activities, tours, hikes, and water adventures to add to our future Maine itineraries.

Starting in Portland, we’ll make our way up the coast to Camden / Belfast / Searsport and then Downeast to Acadia National Park, Schoodic, Machias, Eastport, Lubec, and every tiny town in between.

(This is one of our favorite pics from our Maine 2019 trip!)

Wherever you’re going, safer and smarter is the best travel mode! Be sure to leave space in your luggage for travel insurance.

Travel happier with trip cancellation insurance. Look for a policy that covers non-refundable, pre-paid lodging and transportation costs.

Travel safer, worry less with trip protection. More important than ever, check for benefits that cover you and your travel buddies if you should get unexpectedly sick with Covid-19.

Then travel with confidence, knowing you’ve taken the extra measures!
