The Webb School - Guest Rental and Artists' Retreat

The Webb School - Guest Rental and Artists' Retreat Now closed, this renovated Mississippi Landmark was absolutely the most awesome place to stay in Bay Louis. It's been renovated as one-of-a-kind duplex.

No longer in operation: One of the architectural gems on the gulf coast, this former historic schoolhouse is just two blocks from the beach and close to the heart of Old Town Bay St. The architect/artist owners live on one side, while the guest rental side is nestled in the centuries old live oaks on the other. The guest apartment has four private entrances, front veranda, back deck, and 1200 sq

feet of open living space. If you like large, open, light living spaces, there's few that can match this. BTW, 'Under Surge, Under Siege,' (winner of the 2010 Eudora Welty book prize and MS Library Non-Fiction 2011 Author's Award) was written here in Webb School House by Ellis and published by University Press of Mississippi. If you're interested, you can find out more info on Amazon.com.

For the 15th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Kat Fitzpatrick and I came together to pay a private tribute to those lost and to celebrate those who came to our aid. We began harmonizing together during the long recovery to help along our healing. We haven't sung together for a while, but it brought us joy to do so this morning.

Afterward, we thought some of you might want to tap in to that same place of gratitude with an a capella version of a song we know as "Encourage My Soul." We recorded the song on a phone in my living room and used it to make this little video.

The photographs are by Joe Tomasovsky and myself (Ellis). Most were published in the University Press of Mississippi book "Under Surge, Under Siege, the Odyssey of Bay St. Louis and Katrina" and are covered by the book's copyright: https://www.upress.state.ms.us/Books/U/Under-Surge-Under-Siege

As Kat and I sang, Hurricane Laura was still thrashing its way across the country, after smashing through south Louisiana/Texas. Unfortunately, natural disasters occur often in this world, leaving thousands of people in need 24/7/365. If you're in a position to give, please reach out when you're moved, and donate or volunteer your time through your favorite charity. Survivors never forget a kindness offered in times of distress.
