Just a few minute drive from the cabin. It always astounds me how we have very few people staying at the cabin in the winter when it is by far Winter is the most beautiful and romantic time at the cabin... Up until the last few years we had Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years fully booked. Nice new stove now for holiday meal prep!

Looks like Aurora time tonight! There should be a lot this winter if you want to  the best place in the United States to watch them! I go over to Little Sand Bay Beach, which is little over a five minute drive from the cabin..

Good morning from Ashwabay! Here we go for the 24/25 season! Alpine conditions are excellent. Nordic trails are open and skiing great! First chair loads at 9:30! The first riders get an Ashwabay sweatshirt! We are so pumped to see our Ashwabay community! Let’s do this!!

Well, after 50 years, the cabin’s original stove is officially retired.  Unfortunately I couldn’t find a charity  that wanted it including Core in Bayfield ( they don’t accept large items)  and I didn’t have time to mess around, trying to find a restaurant or bar that had antique decor.  It was a mint condition Montgomery Ward stove that suddenly had a little heat on all the time in the oven for some reason - and I didn’t want to mess with having an appliance repair person fix it for maybe $200.  I hope it doesn’t land in a junkyard somewhere because it’s a real nice piece  with a minor flaw  that could have been fixed. Vintage 1974.  I did not see any sales of it on eBay (meaning rare to see it around anymore) but I imagine it could have gone for maybe $500 or more but it would’ve required a local pick up and that probably would’ve been unlikely / time consuming. Anyway the new one looks very nice. 👍  and it will certainly handle any Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey or ham like a pro. 👍

Wishing everybody a very Happy Thanksgiving!  on December 11 - the Cabin will be retiring the original 1974 (50 year old) Montgomery Ward menu magic stove -  which is a real collectors item! so if you know anybody who is interested in a beautiful antique that is in super condition, please let me know, and I will accept any offers!  I don’t see it has ever sold on eBay, so perhaps because it is so old you don’t see any recent transactions ..  there were some others that were less old that sold for over $1000….  other than one dial  control that could be glued back on -  it is mint condition other than the oven started to heat by itself a little, even though the dial was in the off position, which is probably an easy fix. I could’ve had an appliance guy come out and fix it -  but I decided to go modern now. The stove was the last remaining thing that came with the original Cabin.  Pictured here - the original stove and the new stove! So people will be able to convection bake their  Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey next year. I will post the features of the new stove in the comment section.
