Hunting Island has lost one of its favorite stewards. 🙏❤️

Hunting Island State Park lost one of its favorite stewards last weekend. Retired Park Ranger Carl Berube passed away at his home in Columbia on Sunday, April 6th. A retired U.S. Marine, Ranger Carl will be remembered for his love for Hunting Island and its many wild inhabitants, and its visitors; and his memory will live on through the multitude of photos he has taken during the years he walked the beaches and forest. 🙏🫡❤️

Another way to support Hunting Island is to purchase a special Hunting Island SC license plate. Friends of Hunting Island will receive a big chunk of the $50 fee from SCDMV for the two year plate, and you know your money goes straight to the beach via the organization. The easily recognized plate with artwork by local artist Nancy Ricker Rhett shows you care about preserving and enhancing Hunting Island State Park for future generations. 💕

Whoa! Orcas in the southern Atlantic Ocean? The Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute’s aerial survey team spotted an orca off the coast of NC last week. Usually, only living in colder waters, they say it is the first time they have spotted an orca since survey efforts began in the area five years ago! 🐳
