In4All strategically pairs a company with a local middle school that our elementary schools feed into with the goal of making multiple connection points to industry and careers for our students. In4All facilitates volunteer training in the design thinking process and engages the community in gallery walks that showcase the students' solutions to the problems they defined. Project-based learning is proven to increase student interest in school, an important step to completing high school and taking that next step toward college or career.

A key aspect to In4All’s programming is iteration. Youth voice informs our programs and we make it a point to listen and reconsider whats meaningful to our students. Launched in 2016, our middle school program is designed to increase interest in both subjects before the students enter high school and begin to be pushed out of the education system entirely. The unique program connects math and science to places in their community — such as a school, park or abandoned property — to make it highly relevant to the students in each school. This community-based approach helps make the learning relevant for the student and keeps them engaged in the process.

In4All is mobilizing business-school partnerships in our communities to create limitless possibilities for students. The STEM Connect program engages 4th and 5th-grade students in hands-on learning experiences that increase their interest in math, science, or careers they might not have imagined for themselves. Business volunteers lead each activity (with facilitation from the classroom teacher) while sharing how they use math and science in their jobs and engaging students to imagine new possibilities for themselves.

“I started life out with a single mom. We didn’t have much when I was younger, so for me it was about finding a career I could place myself in where I had potential. I had aspirations of being an architect or an engineer, so I started in that direction by getting an associates degree in computer aided drafting. I used a lot of Autodesk tools and thought it would be cool to work for the company and I eventually did! It's an experience I like to share with kids. As a former teacher, I know they have all the potential but also have an economic and social mindset that tells them they can’t compete with the overachievers. I share my experience of doing things where the results were not always immediate, but by taking little steps, you can get there and achieve your lofty goals.”
