We are nearing completion on the dome and have been putting the finishing touches on a little romantic feature that we refer to as the Love Cove. I am SO excited about how its turning out but want to keep it a secret for now. Couldn't do it without this amazing contractor I found! ❤️

While we are waiting on the new dome to arrive next month we have been turning our attention to last minute details like landscaping and sidewalks. The Wisteria is finally starting to bloom and the Magnolia blooms smell AMAZING!

The dismantling process began today and while I was building a platform to store the glass, this beauty removed 27 panels BY HERSELF in basically half a day because I accidentally left tool shed keys at home and she had to go back to get them!

As most of you know, we have been holding actual dome progress pretty close to the vest. Our dome sets about 95% complete and has been at that stage for probably more than a month. While it looks amazing to the casual observer, there are small issues in the manufacturing that we have worked for months unsuccessfully to resolve. On the back end, we have been negotiating with the manufacturers under the warranty. We have settled on a course of action and I feel it's time to update everyone. When we dreamed of creating a dome escape, we knew we didn't want to offer the same ol' run of the mill dome with a plastic covering. Those domes do not look as good and cannot offer a comfortable accommodation year round (I call them trash bag domes!). We searched long and hard for a hard shell dome manufacturer with an insulated covering and real glass. There aren't many companies out there that are ambitious enough to offer this type of product but we fell in love with the dome offered by Ekodome and we got to know the people who owned the company as well. We flew to Denver, Colorado to spend some time getting to know Sinan and Asli and we could tell immediately that they were good people who were passionate about their new dome business. We decided to take the plunge. With any new product, there are always bugs to work out and we have run into those issues. Luckily, Ekodome has been working continuously to innovate new ideas to continue to refine their product. Ekodome is as invested in us as we are in them and we all want to make certain that when we finally open our doors we are offering the most luxurious, state of the art, eye popping glamping experience that people have ever had. To this end, we have to announce that I will begin work immediately to dismantle our original series dome and we will be replacing it with a next generation pro series dome in April. This was not an easy decision knowing that it would set us back several months, but for our future guests we knew it was the right decision. The pictures on this post are symbolic because this is a beautiful sunset on our first dome. Springtime is always a time for new beginnings, rebirth and a time when trees and flowers blossom. This too is symbolic for where we plan to be come April with a new beginning and able to blossom with the absolute best dome for our guests. At any stage of this journey we could have stepped back and cut our costs by about 75% and turned out an ordinary plastic "trash bag" dome, but we know our ultimate vision will be well worth the extra time and money spent! Over the summer we asked, practically begged 7 different landscapers to help us come up with a plan and do our landscaping. SEVEN! Two were mildly helpful with suggestions and the other 5 were completely worthless for us. Needless to say, as usual we are doing it ourselves because we will do a BETTER job CHEAPER! While it looks like Santa Claus made a stop in Grandview this morning, it was actually us who drove 11 hours round trip making multiple stops to collect these beautiful specimens! John Denver is celebrating today because we are planting a tree for our tomorrow! PS, look at that beautiful sky above the dome!

Lots of dome progress today! Expecting a shipment of parts tomorrow that should get us at least 80-85% finished. I am not sure if the sky has gotten prettier or if I just appreciate its beauty more. NONE of these pics have a drop of editing.

OPERATION WARP DRIVE is officially in effect! I have been holding off on updates, but this post is brought to you by the Letter P. P for Patio, Pergola, Panels and Power. We have finished our stone Patio for the firepit area, I finished building the Pergola that sits above the hot tub and we started installing Panels yesterday!!! Also, our Power is scheduled to be installed next week which should hopefully speed up the biggest P of all...PROGRESS! Somehow our website and VRBO were both active despite me attempting to set it inactive (kudos to AirBnB for actually listening). This has resulted in us booking 5 nights that I had to refund 😢. But it's exciting that people are that anxious to book even just based on crappy construction photos! We have initiated Operation Warp Drive with every intention of getting done and ready to rent by the end of September!

I just realized it's been almost a month since we have given any updates. We have been kinda stuck in a holding pattern waiting on new gaskets to arrive before completing the dome, but there has been plenty of progress. I built a very nifty pergola over top of the hot tub area (pics to come), we are maybe 3/4 finished with the stone patio and wall for the pondside firepit, we have made great progress getting our fish more comfortable coming to the surface to eat when fed, we are working with an amazing artist - progressing with the arts/signage, I have finished the plumbing up to the hot water tank and water is turned on, I finished all of the wiring yesterday and power company should start cutting trees and setting poles tomorrow, and most importantly, Janet has been working on these nifty little Smores kits! We plan to provide (included or small cost) Smores kits in the spring and summer and Hot Chocolate Cocoa Bombs with Baileys Cream in the fall and winter months. Please give feedback on the Smores.

The entire frame of our dome is installed! Driveway paved today. If you don't like the Country Domes, LLC page yet, go check it out and see how far we have come in just 9 months. Give us a like or a follow while you are there. This dome is REALLY going to take shape in the next few weeks when we install the panels. I could start tomorrow but the paving crew smashed their skidsteer into two of our dome crates and destroyed an important part. Waiting to see if I can get a replacement in the next few days, if not it could take two months 😢.

We had a visitor come out yesterday while we were working on some cleanup before the dome arrives. We stopped to grill some hot dogs and enjoy the sunset. She took these pics that once again validate the name "Grand-view". Sorry many look the same. To me, each is unique and beautiful and I cannot decide which one will speak to each individual viewer, so you get them all! Credit to Juanita Wimmer for the amazing pics!

And you all thought I was taking a break! We have been working sun up to sun down for the passed week to get this baby ready for concrete. Poured 19 yds yesterday just ahead of todays rain! Dome landed in NY this morning! After 2 or 3 days in customs it should be on its way to Grandview! Paving company is gonna hit the driveway June 5th. Hydroseed the lawn immediately after that. This thing is coming together!

That little bullseye is the container ship carrying our dome! We are able to track it live on its journey from Turkey to NY. I am absolutely floored by the volume of container ships that are being live tracked by this app. Reminds me of the heartbreaking amount of space junk in orbit around our beautiful planet.

Spent all day trying to lay out the interior of our dome as we plan to start construction next week!!! Brainstorming took so long that we didn't make it out to Grandview to milk our trees until well after dark. The moon reflecting on the pond was so romantic that love was clearly in the air...at least for many of the frogs. Poor little guy in the last video was singing his heart out but no lady frogs seemed to enjoy his song (I guess they like the strong, silent type!?)

***BIG ANNOUNCEMENT*** At Country Domes, LLC our family is expanding and we are expecting TWINS! Maybe even triplets! We just closed on our new property in Fayetteville, West Virginia, home of one of the Nation's Newest and Top Rated National Parks! Almost 8 acres for our guests to explore located only 7 minutes from the New River Gorge Bridge! We are excited to welcome our little ones and could use help naming them for driveway marker signs. Lots going on the past few days...our Dome is officially at sea! Scheduled to land in port at NY City on May 8! Made John Denver proud and planted 15 Giant Thuja trees to create a future privacy fence out of trees. We finally got all of the mounds of topsoil dirt spread and can start laying out the foundation for the dome. Some BIG news has been in the works, but don't want to jinx it just yet, so stay tuned for that. Won't let me add videos, so I am gonna try to come back and add them after the post is posted, or make a new post with a couple of videos.

Volume Up for the video. The frogs and windchimes make the pondside fire extra peaceful. Lots of progress being made the past few days. Janet dug out and evicted a tiny little mud turtle, I surely hope his parents live in a different pond!
