1. Emphasize Strengths
Focus on your loved one’s strengths rather than their limitations. If there are things they can do well, focus on those and encourage them to continue to utilize that skill.

Advocate for open and honest conversations where your loved one feels comfortable expressing their thoughts and concerns.

3. Identify Goals and Preferences

“It has been a sad time for me, as my wonderful 92-year-old father recently passed away. With that said, he lived a very full life, and I am grateful for all the time and joyous moments we had together. I am also tremendously grateful to the Privatus caregivers that assisted him in these past several months: Rhonda (supervisor), Evelyn, Vincent, Adege, Henry, Godwin, Dzovanna, Elizabeth, Alex, Mercy, and Emmanuel – each and every one of you contributed to his well-being and sense of dignity during challenging times. He was always dressed nicely, treated with respect, and spoke highly of you all.

An extra-special thank you to Mercy, Alex, and Emmanuel who assisted my dad in tough situations. As he would say, “God bless you”. Your kindness and patience did not go unnoticed.
