Looks like North Texas is gearing up for an arctic blast. As a reminder, take precautions to protect your homes and buildings now! In 2021 we experienced a terrible deep freeze. The results were catastrophic. Billions of dollars in damage throughout the state caused many long term battles between policyholders and their insurance companies. Do your best to prevent broken pipes by wrapping outdoor faucets, leaving kitchen and bath cabinets open. Allowing your interior faucets to drip can also help prevent frozen pipes. If you still experience a broken pipe do the following…call your insurance company and report the loss. Do not use the water mitigation company they recommend! Hire your own. Take pictures of the damage. Put an inventory together of any personal property that was damaged. Take any recommended precautions to prevent further damage (your mitigation company can advise you). And when your insurance carrier tries to grossly underpay the loss call us! We had one claim in particular during the 21 event that stands out. This owner’s insurance carrier offered a total estimate of the loss of $61,000. After Suncoast took over, the loss ultimately settled at $405,000. Don’t get bamboozled.
