Bush Sundowners… my favorite way to end the day!

After a day spent tracking lions or snapping photos of elephants, there’s really nothing better than a sundowner in the bush. Every evening on Safari after the last game drive, we stop the vehicle, grab our gin and tonics (or your drink of choice), share stories, and just BREATHE and take it all in. The world slows down at dusk, with the sounds of the bush all around you… ahhh, truly the best part of the day. We are here, we are alive.

Stripes for days and personality to match – zebras are the ultimate icons of the African savannah! Every zebra’s stripe pattern is as unique as a fingerprint. No two are the same, and honestly, they wear it so well.

Let me tell you about Botswana and the iconic Okavango Delta and the Makgadikgadi Pans! This area offers some of the most incredible Safari experiences. With a population of just over 2 million people and massive game reserves, it feels like you are exploring true, unspoiled wilderness.

Botswana is home to leopards, wild dogs, an array of birds, elephants in the many waterways, and so much more. It also has its own zebra migration that moves between the two areas, giving you amazing sightings.

Let’s take a moment to celebrate these stylish little tuxedoed fellows who steal our hearts. Did you know that African Penguins, also known as “jackass penguins” because of their bray-like call, are native to South Africa and Namibia?

Penguins remind us of the importance of conservation and keeping our oceans healthy – for them and all the incredible marine life we love. Happy !

"Next level Mefi!!!! This was the WOW moment of the trip. My MIL, “ I have seen a lot of things in my 80 years - this I have never seen."

Soraiya and her family's Safari in Tanzania was 'next level.' From how they saw a cheetah on their last game drive in Serengeti, Tanzania with Safari Guide Dickson from Mkombe House, to catching a barracuda fish at Fundu Lagoon, I loved hearing about all their moments.

Jambo!

What a year 2024 was! I can't help but look back on the truly wild adventures you've enjoyed across Africa. The stories, the laughter, the life-changing moments – they've all made my heart so full.

Here's just a glimpse of what YOU, my amazing Safari family, experienced:
• Climbing Kilimanjaro as a family, led by a fearless 17-year-old.
• Scuba diving in Pemba Island, Zanzibar – executed by a 15-year-old explorer!
• Taking the plunge into the ice cooooolllddd Devil's Pool, Zambia (yes, even grandparents got in on the action!).
• Petting lemurs in Madagascar and dancing with the Bantu people in Uganda – world travelers aged just 9 and 10 stole the show.
• A fishing and walking Safari in Mara North Conservancy, Kenya.
• Facing fears, and cold, while shark cage diving in Cape Town, South Africa.
• Floating above the Serengeti and Mara in a hot air balloon (views, sunsets, and goosebumps included).
• Petting orphaned wildlife at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust – a favorite with kids and adults alike in Nairobi, Kenya.
• Mokoro riding through Botswana's Okavango Delta… always peaceful, beautiful, and unforgettable.

Each adventure brought so much joy, and it's been an honor to plan these journeys for you. As we step into 2025, I can't wait to see where your dreams will take you next. More sunrises to watch, wildlife to meet, and memories to make. Are you ready? Because I am.

Northern Serengeti, Tanzania is pure wonderland year-round.

Sure, the great wildebeest migration is epic, but even if the wildebeest aren’t grazing the grass in this area, the elephants, giraffes, zebras, lion prides, and more are there in the gorgeous landscapes. And those kopjes (rock outcrops) are purrrfect leopard lounging spots – nature’s catwalk!

My guests are in for a treat for their upcoming Safari at Lemala Kuria.

Tongabezi Lodge – you’ve stolen my heart!

Imagine waking up next to the mighty Zambezi River, with sunrises so stunning you won’t even miss your snooze button. All the many different categories of rooms are carefully crafted masterpiece. I may have borrowed lot of décor ideas for home.

Plus, with activities like Devil’s Pool swims, whitewater rafting, sunset cruises, and epic bungee jumps, you can add as much adventure as your heart desires!

Don’t let a sleeping lion fool you.

One moment, he’s napping; the next, he’s taking down an impala like the boss of the bush. Snapped this guy in the Okavango Delta, Botswana during my 2019 Safari. I was click happy as I watched him hunt down the impala and finish dinner in under an hour.

A Safari moment I think about often. Always be ready with your gear.

Slowing down! One of my favorite animals to watch are the elephants. They move silently around the landscape, eating grass, tearing down barks of the tree, or grabbing leaves from the tree. They are constantly moving. This was one of the many elephants I slowed down for, and thoroughly enjoyed watching for a while, hearing the sounds of nature.
