It’s been a great couple weeks at Dig Deep! We had a great time running 4 days of beginner MTB clinic’s for women’s summer camp at Deception pass, followed up by some great tours with folks from France, Scotland, Germany, Seattle, and Virginia.

One of the best things about guiding is being able to meet people from all around the world and share a little slice of our favorite place on earth. Every day is different when every tour is a different level, and every group comes from a different state or country.

FYI - the land owners at Galbraith Mountain are going to be spraying herbicide across the whole mountain on August 26th and 27th, so is recommending to keep off the mountain entirely. We’ll be halting all tours and rental deliveries to Galbraith to those days. Shop rental pickups, advanced tours at other trailheads, and gravel tours will still be rolling! It happens. Friends bail, plans change, or the boss sends you to rainy Seattle with this awkward free day between sleepy board meeting and snoozy conference.

But hey, you’re an optimist. You see misfortune as opportunity and Carpe the MFing Diem. You decide to look for some guided tours, and oh! Isn’t Bellingham that rising destination on the mountain bike scene?

Good news, and even better news - it is, and we’ve dropped our solo pricing for the rest of the season and through the winter!

Half-days and 2-hrs are now the same pricing as if your buddies didn’t bail, or your coworkers were ever down for anything more adventurous than Top Golf. Full-days have been dropped by $160.

This will run through the end of the primary season (Oct 31st), and then throughout the winter with a more restricted schedule.

Pack some extra socks, and let’s ride!

We still have a few used aluminum Salsa Blackthorn Deore (29in, 140x160) rental bikes for sale! Mediums are all sold out, but we still have a few Smalls, Larges, and XLs for sale.

The Blackthorn Deore is a great entry level bikes for a first full-suspension bike and our clients have been loving them so far this year! Tuned every ride, in excellent condition, and ready to roll.

All parts are stock, so refer to Salsa’s website for specs or reach out by DM or email with any questions.

Pricing changes based on condition, as these are still actively used as rental bikes. Current pricing as of 7/8/24 is the following:

Small: $1650
Large: $1700
XL: $1800

We get a lot of questions on whether we sell bikes, and the answer is we do!

Our used rental fleet will be perpetually for sale. How does this work while the bikes are still being used for tours and rentals, you ask?

We will discount the bike based on its mileage and condition at the point in the season, and then have you pay a deposit. It’ll be held for you while we order a new bike to take its place in our rental fleet. Then it’ll be all yours once the replacement is built up, we receive the remaining payment, and we do a final service on your bike! That process will take 1-2 weeks.

Oh, and we’ll apply the cost of a half-day rental/demo to your purchase if you want to test out the bike first. Demo-to-own, as they say.

Why choose one of our used rentals over FB marketplace or Buy-sell? Each bike gets tuned and cared for each and every ride, and serviced at proper intervals. I mean, who really does that for their own personal bike? 🤔

Ever wondered how Galbraith Mountain became the beautiful spaghetti bowl of MTB trails it is today? Or how this massive plot of land adjacent to downtown Bellingham has resisted development in one of the most expensive real-estate markets in the PNW?

Whatcom County born-and-raised local and Dig Deep guide Madi Burke wrote a fantastic blog on the history of Galbraith, just posted on the site. It goes back to the early land use logging operations by the Galbraith Brothers, early recreation use, the “save the trails” era of WHIMPS and WMBC, all the way to today’s robust community of riders, races, music festivals, kids camps, women’s weekends, and more.

Dig Deep is all about digging deeper than surface level when we travel and recreate, and we hope this adds some context to your next ride at Galbraith!

We’ve been MIA from IG, and it’s OK! Many new things in the works for Dig Deep’s 2024 season behind the scenes that we can’t wait to share.

Spring and full-on MTB season is right around the corner, as evidenced by some budding leaves here in Bellingham, and though the snowpack is worrisome it’s hard not to enjoy this beautiful weather in the PNW.

This October 20th-22nd, join a community of professional women for a weekend of mountain biking, hiking, and focused discussions around career direction and purpose! Un-plug, recharge, and clarify your professional ambitions over two fun, adventurous days in the beautiful PNW.

There are still spaces left on this Women+ mountain biking and hiking campout we are helping organize, right in our backyard in Bellingham! Includes two nights of camping on Lake Samish, all meals covered, guiding on Galbraith Mountain, and optional hikes. Rental bikes are also available, and will be brought straight to camp.

All abilities of mountain bikers and hikers are welcomed! Our guides will break the group down based on skill level - beginners can expect a comfortable and supportive introduction to mountain biking.

POV: You’re riding through the woods on a beautiful sunny day in the PNW. Having the time of your life! Fireweeds and floxgloves brush your face as you grin from ear to ear, feeling free as a Stellar Jay on saturday.

You’re in luck! Fresh to the blog section of our website is “10 things to do in Bellingham”, which will give you a taste of some the non-MTB spice that makes Bham special, as well as the local businesses that can enhance your experience along the way.

Keep in mind, we don’t intend to give up our deepest local secrets and spots. I don’t believe those should be given away willy-nilly; there’s importance in mystery and the chase. The great glowing orb in the sky has revealed itself in NW Washington! We’re psyched, and thinking of bikes. Are you?

With lots of bike rental inquiries coming in for multi-day rentals, I wanted to clarify what we offer. Multi-days are the same structure as single-day rentals, in that we run them as deliveries. However, being that the rental isn’t for a single ride at one trailhead, we’re happy to accommodate a delivery to your lodging. And remember, 3+ days are 15% off!

Single day rentals require a minimum payment of two bikes, but for 2-day rentals and onward only one bike is required to book.

This may require lots of words to explain, but the end result is as simple of a bike rental process as you can find! You can now select 2-day through 7-day after selecting your start date in our booking software.

And if you are on the fence about rental-only vs tour, give us a call or email and we’ll happily chat through the pros and cons with you!

Lastly, see you all at ‘s opening day next Friday, May 5th, which will also be our first day as a pop-up tenant of the Portal Container Village!
