In this video, Jewell James of Lummi Nation's Sovereignty & Treaty Protection Office explains the symbology of Lummi Nation's emblem, traditional Coast Salish Law and why Lummi Nation has decided to support, indigenize and spiritually energize the longtime movement to rescue and return TOKITAE (aka Lolita) from Miami Seaquarium to her native home in the Salish Sea where her mother Ocean Sun (L25) and L-pod family still swim and live free today.
Tokitae (aka Lolita) is the last survivor of approximately 45 Southern Resident Orca children taken from the Salish Sea in the 1970s for use as entertainment by so-called SeaWorld and other Orca captivity/entertainment corporations. Approximately 15 Southern Resident Orcas, mostly parents of the Orca children being kidnapped, were also killed in the capture process.
