Our History

The Whatcom Artist Studio Tour was founded in 1995 to bring the public into artists' working studios for a two weekend self-guided tour and sale. The Studio Tour offers visitors insight into the creative process, work-life and work-environment of area artists and provides an opportunity for people to purchase original works directly from their makers. The Whatcom Artist Studio Tour be

gan with ten artists and has grown to be a well orchestrated tour featuring over 40 artists working in more than a dozen different media, and featuring 41 studios scattered throughout Bellingham and Whatcom County. The tour includes both emerging and established artists in Whatcom County. Each studio features the work of the primary artist, and some may include additional artists as well, providing a unique and compelling variety of artwork. It's an opportunity to buy work from local artists, to find new sources of inspiration, to share and to learn. And, it's two weekends of exploring Bellingham, Whatcom County and artists' workspaces!

Installed 2 "Ferndale Ferns" on the new Thornton Road Overpass, Ferndale, WA for the City of Ferndale - a Public Art project of the Ferndale Arts Commission, November 15, 2024. The Installation was a culmination of an idea of Ferndale Arts Commission Chair Rebecca Xczar, and was Created, Designed, Fabricated, Welded, and Installed by Don Anderson. Accomplished over eleven months, the project was completed with the help of CAD Designer Mike McKinley of McMetal Creations, the folks at Morse Steel and A-1 Welding for cutting, transporting and rolling of the 3/8" Steel Plate, Quentin Chambers and his people at Advanced Powder-Coating, Tony and his help from Bode Precast for Hauling and Crane Service, Northwest Safety Signs for Flaggers, Central Welding Supply, Raymond McNamara from Materials Testing Consultants for Welding and Bolting Inspections, verified and Inspected by CWI Russell Jones, Katy and the folks at Ferndale Public Works, and my good friends Marshall Judy from Central Welding Supply for Technical support, and Marshall, Brian McConnell, Suzanne Averre, Sofia Pearson, Oliver Tanaka, Russ Jones, and Kelly Fleming for their Professional help installing.
