Such an awesome trip with and his son. Thank you for allowing me to be your host. Men, fishing in a boat with your son creates a special bond and can drive a life long passion of the outdoors. I was blessed to have a grandfather in my life that was a fish-hound and in my eyes was a local legend. He was the driving force behind fishing in my life. I am excited for all the father/son trips in 2025.

Check out this 🐆 spotted muskellunge! This was an older fish that ate a XL. Sometimes the ancient muskies have a pattern that will blow your mind. It’s a mystery how the pattern develops over the lifespan of the fish but I have seen it time and time again. We got a couple that morning (smaller fish thrown in).

The Headwater Trump Musky hats have arrived. They are loaded on the Headwaters site and ready to ship. We have many different flavors of truckers and a beanie style (think Carhartt). I currently have limited stock as I took the blanks my supplier had on hand. Don’t sleep on the most American musky hat to ever grace an angler’s cranium.

Once in a blue moon I will give in to peer pressure and fish a tournament. .marler from put on a clinic and we took 2nd place during the Brian Truax Memorial. Hard to believe that we didn’t get first but when you are going against .fishing and you will take whatever they give ya.

Here’s an early season musky that ate a tube. This was a first musky for my client and a bucket list fish. If a musky is on your bucket list send me a text. I have been putting fish in clients hands for 20 years.

Sometimes it’s the small ones that end up hurting ya. This musky put a hook into the lower bone of my thumb with such force I needed to remove it with pliers. Of course the musky was still attached to the other hook. I was fortune this year and only visited the hospital one time.

Here is a solid open water early season fish from this year. It was caught up river in a shallow body of water. Connected waters are prime areas to explore when targeting immediate post spawn fish.

Here’s a few early season fish we caught casting a deep water basin immediately outside of a spawning ground. Sometimes it can be a numbers game as many fish stack up in a handful of acres. These small deep water basins are often overlooked. Many anglers concentrate on shallow weeds early season. Deep water offers post spawn muskies and area to rest and feed on pelagic baitfish.

About Kevin

My name is Kevin Cochran and thank you for taking time to visit my page. I am the ONLY full-time musky fishing guide in the Bemidji and Cass Lake areas of Minnesota. Muskies are my passion and they are the only fish that I target. I began fishing the Bemidji area lakes in 2000. Over the last 20 years I have established a strategic game plan centered around the yearly peak activity of the lakes that I guide on. This allows me to have a rough outline prior to the musky season beginning. Weather conditions and solunar periods also play an important role in lake selection. Basically, we will be fishing the lake that will give us the best opportunity to connect with fish at the time we are scheduled.

I have experience guiding beginners that are looking to catch their first fish and seasoned musky fisherman interested in increasing their knowledge of a specific body of water. I have guided veteran anglers to tournament wins in the past. 2020 marks the 16th I have been guiding muskies in the Cass Lake and Bemidji areas. Regardless of what you are looking for you will have an exciting and informative time on the water with me. I am an enthusiastic and motivated fisherman that has a passion for teaching you the reasons behind the tactics we are implementing. I will provide you with on the water information and techniques that you need to put more and bigger fish in the boat. It is my goal to make sure that your experiences with me are positive and educational. My clients are the focal point of the trip and not me.

Musky fishing in the Bemidji and Cass Lake Minnesota areas is a unique and rewarding experience. There is an excellent chance to connect with a 50-inch fish and muskies in the mid to upper 40 inch range are common. Musky fishing in the area is absolutely incredible. The area is made up of a variety of lakes, which range in size from 300 acres to almost 26,000 acres. The composition and structure of these lakes vary greatly which allow me to use many different tactics to put my clients on fish. I am in-tune with the daily patterns and movements due to being on the water every day.
