It was commissioned by Julian McAllister, who commanded the Benicia Arsenal from 1860-1885. Fun fact: Famous American poet Stephen Vincent Benét (author of "John Brown's Body" and "The Devil and Daniel Webster") lived here as a young boy while his father commanded the Arsenal! 📚 P.S. Today, this historic building is home to Arts Benicia!
