Will Discovery Flight Breakdown
Scheduling a discovery flight is easy! But it's even easier when you let Will break it down for you. 👨💻 ✈️ 👍
Discovery Flight
Have you dreamed of becoming a pilot? Know anyone who's dreaming about it right now?
(We sure do...)
It seems like for most people the idea feels so far out of reach that all they ever do is dream about it without taking that first step to make it a reality.
What we'd like to know is: why?
Why not just see for yourself? And honestly, there's probably not a better place to do it than right here in Bentonville, Arkansas.
From the world-class FBO, to the insane landscape of the Ozarks, down to our team of amazing, passionate instructors, there's just not a better place, or a better time of year to finally turn the dream into reality.
We don't know exactly who needs to see this video, but we hope it finds them.

Episode 3: Tailwheel Specialty Landings
Today’s throwback is Episode 3 of our BACKCOUNTRY TRAINING SERIES with Lucas Nunley. This episode was originally published back in August of 2020 and one of YOU recently asked us to do a video on this EXACT content. So... here it is.
Now, a quick reminder that we want to hear from you all. Please do let us know what other training topics you'd like to see us cover - backcountry flying, Cessna flying, airplane care/maintenance, whatever! Hey we’re just super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable pilots, we’re not mind readers, so let us know! We’re definitely here to help…
If you’re feeling impatient and would like to watch the whole series at once, head on over to our FlyOz YouTube channel to see all 5 current episodes.

Part 2 | Training Tuesday with Caio!
Listen, we know we just released a really cool video about Thaden Field and Backcountry Flying in the Ozarks. BUT Caio, our fearlesss Chief Flight Instructor, is back with a really important message about Runway 36 operations.
Have you ever flown in on Runway 36? Yes! Do you plan to visit soon? I'm betting yes after you saw yesterday's video! Then this 2 minute training video is absolutely for you. Especially if the winds are blowing in from the north!
Did you know that we only sit 6 miles from XNA? Today's training asks all students, renters, transients, hot air balloons, and YOU to avoid the Class Charlie Airspace when landing on 36. Caio's going to show exactly how to do that today!
HINT: There's a visual reference he points out that you'll want to keep your eyes on. It's a game changer.
ANOTHER HINT: It's a roundabout. Roundaboot? Rotary. Traffic Circle.
Let us know what questions you have. Happy and safe flying, friends!
Episode 2: Maximum Performance Takeoffs
Today’s throwback is Episode 2 of our BACKCOUNTRY TRAINING SERIES with @lucasnunley. This episode was originally published back in August of 2020 and we got some great responses to it. So now we’d like to hear from you - is this something you’d like to see more of in the future? Or perhaps there’s another subject or training topic you’d like for us to cover? Hey we’re just super talented pilots, we’re not mind readers, so let us know! We’re definitely here to help…
If you’re feeling impatient and would like to watch the whole series at once, head on over to our FlyOz YouTube channel to see all 5 current episodes. You can find that here https://bit.ly/3eRjk0o.

Caio RAZORBACK
Do you call Razorback Approach when you operate around KVBT? Yes? Great! No? WHY NOT?
Today’s tip is encouraging all students, renters, transients, hot air balloons, and anything else flying around Bentonville to give Razorback Approach a jingle on 121.05 or 126.6. They’re there to help!
KVBT is sandwiched between several other very busy airports. Our friends at Razorback Approach want us to talk to them as often as possible, to keep everyone in the NWA airspace as safe as possible.
We’re lucky to be able to pick up FLIGHT FOLLOWING with Razorback Clearance on the ground at KVBT on 121.05, and always use it on training flights. We encourage all renters and transient pilots to do the same.
Even if you’re just flying in for brunch at LOUISE, Razorback would also like for you to ring them up on 121.05 before you leave so they can keep you safe on the way out.
Airplane Camping Anyone?
Guys, seriously. The more we share about being in the Ozarks, the more we love sharing. If you’ve spent any time here then you know what we mean… there’s just an endless number of things to show off about this part of the country that are especially appealing to the more adventurous pilots among us.
And now that the weather is finally warming, the color is returning on the ground, and more pilots are preparing for fly-outs, we wanted to share what @parker.cantrell, one of our own crew members and private pilots here at Thaden Field, had to say about any good Ozark dweller's favorite spring and summer pastimes - camping.
With 64 airstrips in the area, you can find whatever adventure you’re looking for. From fishing the white river to floating the buffalo to mountain biking world class trails to a simple tent and fire weekend with good friends. Whatever you’re lookin’ to get into, you’re sure to find it in the Ozarks!
*Footage from this video is a mix between Sugar Creek right here in Bentonville and Trigger Gap, an airstrip we highly recommend visiting, which is just 34 miles away. For more info about Trigger Gap check out airfield.guide online.

Spring is right around the corner!
Did anyone else forget about Daylight Savings Time this year? As disoriented as I was waking up an hour later this morning, I love the reminder of DST because it’s also a reminder that we’re springing forward into a new season.
Spring is right around the corner and we want to know… what are you most looking forward to this spring? We want to hear from you, flying plans related or not. We’re just trying to share some good energy in the world today!

Get your Tailwheel Endorsement at Summit!
Someone asked me yesterday how I’d describe flying in a tailwheel aircraft. Answer: The MOST FUN you’ll ever have flying!
DISCLAIMER: if you didn’t see Monday’s video post yet, go back and watch it now!
With roots dating back to the training aircrafts of World War 1, tailwheel airplanes allow a pilot to experience true “stick and rudder” flying as it was meant to be enjoyed. Flying taildraggers is a great way to expand your skills while also opening a world of new places to fly into (again... see Monday’s video!).
Now, flying a tailwheel requires an endorsement. And here’s the good news, we want you all to know that you can get your tailwheel endorsement here at Thaden Field through our flight school, Summit Aviation! The top 3 reasons to get your tailwheel endorsement at Summit Aviation:
1. Experience in a conventional gear airplane will improve your overall flying skills.
2. Tailwheel flying opens up a whole host of new airplanes to fly!
3. It’s not a rating, it’s just a fun endorsement. No written test!
We have a great fleet of three tailwheel aircrafts for training and rental: a Piper J-3 Cub, an American Legend AL18 Super Legend Cub, and our Piper PA-18 Super Cub.
Note: most pilots require a minimum of 5-10 hours to become proficient and comfortable in the airplane. To learn more, visit us at https://www.iflysummit.com/tailwheel-training
