At the Knott County Sportsplex- We didn't just present our traveler personas, and findings about the importance of adopting social media as a economic development strategy in rural communities to tourism experts and community members; our work was actually filmed by a local TV station, and would ultimately be used as an informative piece. Last week while on a field trip in the KRADD region, we got news that a coal company laid off 450 workers. Yet another reminder on the importance of economic diversification and the urgency and seriousness with which mining dependent counties need to promote tourism and create new jobs.
